We were lucky to catch up with LuQuandra Rhodes recently and have shared our conversation below.
LuQuandra, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Right now I’m breaking generational cycles/curses when it comes to me and my son. I want to be able to teach him about real life things I wasn’t taught growing up. Some of us were taught the obvious – ex: don’t be out late, watch your friends, don’t have sex at a young ate, get a job at 16 or 18 years old. Which is great advice! But, also I want to leave a legacy knowing the generation that’s after me knows to keep God first in everything they do. Learning how to budget and save, keep a clean credit record, it’s okay not to live above their means, keep a certain percentage in their savings, how to properly run a business, how to start saving for their kids college tuition, and etc. I just want to leave a legacy of a financial literacy and hard working family.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For the new people who haven’t read my story; I started photography back in 2014, here in Augusta, GA. In 2020, I decided to take my last $600 I had and buy me a new camera to start my business full-time. I knew that was what I was supposed to do. Photography has always been a joy in my life. It took me a while to find my lane, but I finally found it. I’m more focus on maternity and editorial style photography. My goal for 2023 is to start working with industry clients to further my career. This year, I stopped graphic designing because I knew in my art I wanted to pursue my Interior Design career. I started full time this past August, and it’s been such an amazing experience. I knew just growing up as teenager I wanted to be an Interior Designer, watching my mom decorate our home full of Sunflower decor lol. She would have the entire living room, dining room, and kitchen dripped down in matching sunflowers; but I knew she just loved decorating. My main goal is to make sure everyone’s home feels like their sanctuary. Every time they walk into their home, they should feel at peace, but also see the beauty in it.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Business credit and learning how to fund your business without using your own capital. It’s so many resources and grants out here that I’m just now learning about this year. But one thing I will offer for my small business owners is – get your LLC, then your DUNS number, download an app called NAV and start getting business lines of credit. Thank me later! I just want to be a blessing to others, with information that’s out here no one is willing to share.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Just being you! Seeing your creations come into fruition, that you’ve been working so hard to create. Also, knowing that you can inspire the next person to pursue their dreams and goals just by showing your creativity.
