We recently connected with Luke Sutton and have shared our conversation below.
Luke, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew being in the entertainment industry was something I wanted to do after the premiere of my first film. My 11-year-old daughter went to the premiere and started crying when she saw one of the scenes where I lost my daughter. That’s when I knew the power of what we do.
I also knew when I was a featured extra on the show Nashville around 2016. I became a little star-struck being on set and decided this may be something I wanted to do or at least attempt.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey started with my desire to be an actor. That was always the plan. Coming from a small town, I never thought it would be possible. Then, I moved to Nashville in 2016. After working on a few projects in both Nashville and Atlanta, I became intrigued by just creating content in general. I never thought how intrigued I would become with producing a project. I decided to become a film student in early 2020 to obtain a Master of Arts in Producing, and I will graduate in Spring 2023.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe it starts with creatives supporting each other. This business is like sales, you get way more no’s than you do yes’. It costs nothing to view other projects and like/love social media posts. We all have different goals and ambitions. It really doesn’t take much time or money to click on a youtube video and watch something another filmmaker has created.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I’ve met and worked with so many great people. My favorite part is getting a group of people together who love creating things and closely working to create something special. It’s impossible to make a film by yourself.
