We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Luke Loy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Luke below.
Luke , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
One thing that I have done and continue to do for my customers and our Community is to provide an open house style christmas. I give back to my customers and Community by providing food, gifts and holiday entertainment free of charge. I typically provide for over 2000 members and customers. My favorite part of doing this for my community is to see the magic and smiles in not only the children’s hearts but their parents as well. For some, this may be the only christmas they have. In addition, I host a wall outside my home which is called the loving wall which has free food, clothes, toys, etc…
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Luke Loy. I have been doing hair for over 35 years. Making people feel beautiful and providing a boost in their confidence is why I do what I do. I have an open door policy with everyone. My shop and my house is always open for anyone at anytime. I provide the safe zone for many. Not only am I a hair stylist, I am a listening ear. My house is a historical house built in 1893 and provides a lot of history of our area in West Virginia. Aside from doing hair and being a cosmetologist; I also have a passion for interior design. I restored my historic house with a Victorian type style. My clients absolutely love my house and the atmosphere of my shop. I enjoy not only providing my customers with a service, but a friend, who is available to listen to clients vent, talk about anything, and provide a well rounded great experience!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have always had to fight against the odds as a business owner. From the beginning, being a business owner and being a part of the LGBTQ community set me aside from most business owners three decades ago. I had to fight to build my reputation and maintain my business. Thankfully today, I have beat those odds and stigma. Another example of my resilience in my business is that I have the condition MS. Having a chronic illness has affected my life and at times has caused me to become paralyzed. Although living with MS can be defeating, I have never let it affect my business or my positive outlook on life. In addition to all of these things mentioned, I am also an author of a book titled ” Be good to yourself and kind to others” that is available on Amazon. Due to my resilience and my constant will to keep going, I have had the pleasure of being casted on national television on the TLC network. I have been featured in many worldwide magazines and several news articles and talk radio shows worldwide and nationwide.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
In today’s world our lives are revolved around social media. One way that I have built my audience on social media is by staying consistent and staying positive. I post at least once a day with related content to my business and availability. My advice for anyone promoting their business on social media is to stay positive and consistent and steer away from Negativity.
