We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luke Lorick a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Luke, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
Standing out from everyone that is competing for people’s attention is not easy. Creating a fun and engaging way to stand out is easier said than done, but I came up with a unique idea that did just that.
2 years ago, I had the idea of launching a cornhole back across a football field with a water balloon launcher. In July 0f 2025 I assembled the team, worked with Guinness World Records and was able to achieve an epic world record to have people pause and take a look at what we were doing.
This world record was with a three-man team that shot a cornhhole bag 151 feet, half a football field, into a regulation ACL approved cornhole board.
This record took over 600 attempts and 12 hours to achieve the cornhole shot heard around the world.
Shout out to my partners Joel Strasser and Garrett Smith that battled until we were officially amazing.

Luke, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always enjoyed football and tailgating. After graduation from the University of South Carolina I had a dream one night, literally, that got me out of bed and to create the Tailgating Challenge Facebook page. From there I built out a website and a host of social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X) that now have over 300,000 followers.
I now showcase the latest tailgating products, ideas and tips to help people have more a tailgating parties across the United States. I test out the latest gear and then turnaround and give our followers a chance to win new tailgating items every week.
I continue to travel to more and more tailgates to experience the culture, meet amazing people and create the best tailgating content in the world.
I’ve been featured on ESPN, SEC Network, ABC, FOX and even had a short cameo in the Barbie Movie.
I work on Tailgating Challenged every single day for the last 13 years. While its the largest tailgating social media site in the world there is still so much I want to do to spread the tailgating gospel.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
Tailgating at Broncos Stadium in 2025 I teamed up with our friends at Lavabox, who were featured on Shark Tank, I had the idea to showcase cornhole as it has never been seen before.
We set up 3 Lavaboxes, that are ammo can style fire pits, between the boards and let the fire roar. Then we had tailgaters take the ultimate Tailgating Challenge and toss bags over the inferno.
This helped create some amazing social media content that is on brand with pushing the needle of doing things that have never been done in the tailgating space.
Before security came and shut this challenge down our friends at Lavabox were able to sell multiple units based on the unique display.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a creator on social media sounds glamourous but understanding the algorithm and adapting to the never-ending changes can be frustrating. Something works one day and the next it’s totally changed. In addition, you are consistently having to step up your game since everyone and their Mom is a content creator, so it continues to be harder and harder to be seen. Toss in working demanding full time corporate gig and one can easily feel defeated.
When the algorithm starts to diminish views and there is never enough time you must take a breath and recenter to keep going. Things like this have stopped many a person and made them give up. You have to stay consistent and keep going forward to find the long-term success, in spite of all adversity.
When I get frustrated, I pause, remember all the blessing and good things going on. Then I pop on my headphones crank up some hip hop and hit the Colorado mountain trails or get a gym session in.
Keep going and good things will happen.
