We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Luke Leetham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Luke below.
Hi Luke , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew I wanted to be a performer and artist at a very young age. I think what really drove me into music was the first record I made. I was 14 years old and had started producing songs with my dad’s laptop. My piano teacher had a recording studio in his basement. I brought the songs to him and asked if he’d help me lay out vocal tracks. We finished the four song record in just a day. I printed CDs and gave them to family members. The whole process was inspiring and just perfect. In those small moments is when I decided to pursue music as a career.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an independent recording artist based out of Salt Lake City. I got into the industry after years of practice and playing small shows. In the last year I have been able to play festivals and shows in Utah, Idaho and Northern California. I am known for blending genres and putting on energetic shows. If you ever find yourself at a leetham show, you’re going to want to come back again. They’re very fun!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am a queer artist. I want to create a safe space for other queer people. Somewhere where we can all come together, dance, sing along and just thrive. It’s important to me. We live in such a crazy world and I want my shows and music to be an escape from that.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist are the little moments of love and community. When people are singing along to songs you wrote. When people say how much they love a song. Those moments share an energy of love. It’s never been about fame or money. It’s always been about the exchange of energy.
