Luke, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My journey in music, evolving as a songwriter, guitar player and audio engineer has been filled with numerous ups and downs, as I’m sure many musicians can relate to. One of the most significant factors that have contributed to my growth is the importance of consistency.
Consistency isn’t just about practicing the guitar every day or writing a song whenever inspiration strikes. It’s about committing to the process, showing up even on the days when you don’t feel like it, and relentlessly pursuing your passion for music.
Consistency has been the cornerstone of my progress. It’s what has enabled me to develop my technical skills on the guitar, refine my songwriting abilities, and nurture my creativity over time. By consistently dedicating myself to practice sessions and songwriting routines, I’ve been able to see tangible improvements in my craft.
But consistency isn’t just about putting in the hours; it’s also about maintaining a mindset of perseverance and resilience. There have been moments of frustration and self-doubt along the way, but staying consistent has taught me to push through obstacles and keep moving forward, no matter what challenges may arise.
Moreover, consistency has helped me establish a sense of routine and structure around my musical pursuits. Having dedicated time for practice and songwriting has allowed me to stay focused and disciplined, even amidst the chaos of everyday life.
Ultimately, finding my consistency has been instrumental in shaping me into the guitarist, songwriter, engineer and creative individual that I am today. It’s taught me the value of dedication, discipline, and the power of persistence. And while the journey may have had its fair share of ups and downs, I wouldn’t trade it for anything, because it’s through consistency that I’ve been able to truly find my voice and express myself authentically through music.

My dive into the world of music began during my teenage years when I first picked up a guitar and felt that indescribable connection to the instrument. Music became my escape, my creative outlet, and ultimately, my passion.
Growing up, I was always drawn to the power of music to evoke emotions, tell stories, and connect people from all walks of life. Whether it was strumming chords in my bedroom or jamming with friends in garage bands, I found immense joy in the act of creating music and sharing it with others.
As I delved deeper into my musical journey, I began to explore the technical aspects of sound production and recording. This curiosity led me to discover the world of audio engineering, where I could blend my love for music with my fascination for technology and sonic experimentation.
It was a pivotal moment when I moved to Los Angeles, a city renowned for its vibrant music scene and rich history of audio production. Immersed in this creative hub, I had the opportunity to dive headfirst into the world of professional audio engineering, learning from seasoned professionals and gaining hands-on experience in recording studios and live sound environments. I took all that knowledge and understanding back to my home state of Colorado and started my own company Luke William Productions LLC in 2021.
Transitioning from playing music to working behind the scenes as an audio engineer opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me. I found myself captivated by the intricacies of sound design, mixing techniques, and the art of capturing the perfect sonic landscape.
What began as a teenage hobby had evolved into a fulfilling career path that allowed me to combine my passion for music with my technical skills and creative instincts. Whether I’m crafting immersive soundscapes in the studio or engineering live performances on stage, I feel grateful every day to be able to pursue my passion for music in such a meaningful way.
In essence, my journey into music and audio engineering has been a testament to the transformative power of following your passion and staying open to new opportunities. It’s a journey that continues to inspire me, challenge me, and fuel my love for music in all its forms.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One resource that I wish I had tapped into earlier in my creative journey is the power of reaching out to industry professionals for guidance and mentorship. When I was starting out, I often underestimated the willingness of seasoned professionals to share their knowledge and offer support to aspiring artists like myself.
It’s easy to feel intimidated or hesitant to reach out to industry professionals, especially when you’re just starting to find your footing in the creative world. However, what I’ve come to realize is that many professionals are genuinely passionate about nurturing the next generation of talent and are more open to helping than you might think.
Whether it’s seeking advice on navigating the music industry, honing your craft, or finding opportunities for collaboration, reaching out to industry professionals can provide invaluable insights and guidance that can accelerate your growth as an artist.
One piece of advice I would offer to anyone embarking on their creative journey is not to be afraid to put yourself out there and connect with professionals in your field. Whether it’s attending industry events, reaching out via email or social media, or seeking out mentorship programs, there are countless ways to establish meaningful connections and learn from those who have walked the path before you.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most profound lessons I had to unlearn was the idea of living someone else’s dream instead of pursuing my own. It’s a lesson that took me some time to fully embrace, but its significance became increasingly clear as I navigated my creative journey.
In the earlier stages of my career, I found myself heavily influenced by external expectations, societal norms, and the perceived definitions of success set by others. I felt pressure to conform to certain standards, whether it was pursuing a particular style of music, following a predetermined career path, or seeking validation from external sources.
However, as I immersed myself deeper into my creative pursuits, I began to realize that true fulfillment and authenticity come from following my own passion and vision, rather than trying to live up to someone else’s expectations.
The turning point came when I recognized the importance of honoring my own voice, creativity, and unique perspective. I realized that my journey as an artist is deeply personal and inherently tied to my own experiences, aspirations, and values.
Letting go of the need for external validation and embracing my authenticity allowed me to tap into a newfound sense of freedom, creativity, and purpose. Instead of chasing someone else’s dreams, I started to carve out my own path, fueled by my passion for music and driven by my own vision of success.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the lesson I had to unlearn, as it ultimately led me to a place of greater self-awareness, confidence, and creative fulfillment. Today, I’m committed to living authentically, staying true to my artistic vision, and pursuing my dreams on my own terms.
So, if there’s one piece of advice I would offer to aspiring creatives, it’s this: Don’t let anyone else’s dreams define your own. Embrace your uniqueness, follow your passion unapologetically, and trust in your ability to create a meaningful and fulfilling creative journey of your own.
I will also say creatives out there learn how to make money. Making money is a skill and artist need to master that skill. The whole Idea of “do what you love and the money will come” is short sighted. You gotta eat.
