Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Luke Abad. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Luke, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a creative, I believe that we are all chasing an intrinsic motivation that is manifested through our work. I started sports videography about 6 years ago and have been going ever since. I stood on the principle of bridging the gap between art and sports, though as my work has matured, so has the vision. I have now pivoted my mindset to create work that lasts and is applicable to every demographic. As we know, this is not an easy task. I think there is beauty in creating work that is visually captivating to the general public. By branching out from my distinct style, I am able to not stop at the first solution and can breakthrough to that next level of thinking. This is where the best ideas come from.
Luke, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
About 6 years ago I started creating hype videos for my then middle school basketball team. After seeing the feedback and comfortability I gained with the camera, I decided it was something I wanted to pursue more seriously. Getting into highschool is where I started to come into my own, filming and creating content for the biggest names in Texas basketball. After graduating I went full time and started traveling for work. Having creative freedom to create as I please was a big thing for me. Meeting some of the nations best creatives and collaborating with them on different projects helped me visualize the scale of impact that my work can reach.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of clients for me has been reaching out on my own. I found that earlier in my career I got complacent and waited for work to come to me. By reaching out I set the tone and paint the picture for what we can accomplish together. Word of mouth and reputation was another big way to get noticed, the more innovative and consistent you are will get you where you need to be.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I have always been a big proponent of credit usage. I financed my initial setup for around $6000 and payed it off within the first few months. Despite it being a big gamble for a 16 year old, it helped me build credit history and also gave me points that is recycled back into flights. I think it was a great tool and if used right you can reap many benefits.
