Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Luiz Booth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Luiz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
For sure, sometimes I catch myself thinking that if I had started earlier, maybe I’d be at a different level today. But at the same time, I also believe I probably didn’t have the maturity back then, and that makes a huge difference.
At the end of the day, I am where I am because of that journey. I’ve learned a lot from my mistakes (and I’m still learning… because stopping isn’t really an option).
Art has been with me since I was a kid, but turning it into a profession might have happened at exactly the right time. So yeah, sometimes I wonder “what if,” but I try to look at it with a sense of humor and gratitude, every phase played its part in getting me here.

Luiz, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, nice to meet you, my name is Luiz Booth.
I’m a professional tattoo artist with over 10 years of experience. I also create illustrations for brands and bands, mainly for merchandise and visual projects, and I work as a painter as well.
On top of that, I’m a professional drummer and have been playing for about 25 years. So, in short… I’ve been making a living from art for a long time now. I’m always open to learning new things, even though I tend to overthink a bit before getting started (working on that… haha).
Music has been part of my life since I was around 12. Through ups and downs, I’ve always stayed connected to it in some way, whether playing or creating artwork related to it.
As a tattoo artist, I started my career in my home country, Brazil. Today, I’m based in Canada, mainly for logistics and travel purposes. It’s safer, and it also gives me easier access to other countries, which makes a big difference in this line of work.
As a tattoo artist, I believe I need to be good at everything my clients ask for. I’ve learned to work across all styles and not limit myself creatively.
That said, my standout work tends to be realism, biomech, and color pieces. Still, I’m not the kind of artist who boxes himself into one lane, whether it’s a cover-up, a full sleeve, or something completely different, I’m always ready to take it on.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
For sure, support art in any way you can.
Whether it’s buying a print, getting a tattoo, or picking up a record, it all matters. These days, almost everything is more accessible. If you can’t afford a tattoo right now, get a print. If you can’t afford a print, like, share, and comment on social media, that’s also real support.
We’re kind of “hostages” to social media these days, so any kind of engagement genuinely helps and goes a long way. Sometimes your share might be exactly what triggers someone else to invest in an artist’s work.
And the best part? It doesn’t cost a thing.
Being an artist today isn’t just about being good at what you do, it’s a whole package: marketing, photography, exposure, communication… and honestly, that’s the hardest part of the job.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Different answers for that one, let’s go.
As a musician, it’s definitely seeing people singing your songs at shows, or even just humming them out in the streets. That always brings a smile to my face, it’s incredibly rewarding.
As a tattoo artist, it’s that moment when the client looks in the mirror and sees the finished piece… and of course, the reaction when I say “I’m done”, they almost cry from happiness (in a good way, haha).
And as an illustrator and painter, it’s seeing your work out in the world, printed on t-shirts, painted on walls you never expected, or hearing people talk about your art without even knowing you personally. That creates this huge, even if sometimes brief, feeling of joy.
Big thanks to everyone who trusts me and my art, that truly means a lot.
