We were lucky to catch up with Luis Mejia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Luis, thanks for joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
It all started when I was in grade school. At my elementary school we had an annual school wide project where each student from every grade level would have to write a story. It was mainly designed to encourage kids to read and write. As such I wrote a short fantasy story heavily inspired by The Lord of the Rings. Since then I loved the idea of telling stories. However it wasn’t until my second year of college where that passion came back. From there I started writing down ideas and concepts for a fantasy story which after 7 years turned into my debut novel, The Grimalkin Knight.
Luis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As previously mentioned the inception of this journey could be traced back to grade school however the current ongoing and active writing started in my second year of college where I decided to write and publish a novel.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to complete my book series and become a bestselling author. Seeing other indie authors within my social circle motivates me to continue.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Working a 9-5 limits the amount of time I can spend on writing. As such my goal of launching the book got pushed multiple times as editing and rewrites continued. However I keep going as every completed chapter was a step closer to the finish line.
