Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Luis Jairala. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Luis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Since I was a kid I always dreamed of doing what I currently do. Interviewing my toys and manifesting my current career with vision boards always kept me focused with accomplishing my goals. I went to college for this career but I really learned on the field. I still remember how nervous I was before my very first celebrity interview.
I was so young, fresh out of school and with absolutely no experience. but you have to start somewhere. I remember using one of my college notebooks to write questions.
One of the things you need to change first is your mindset. Just because you are new to any type of job doesn’t mean you have to feel like you aren’t as important as others, because you don’t have the experience. At the end of the day if the opportunity was given to you, there has to be a reason why you are there.
I always believed in myself but it can get very scary out there. there is so much competition.
to speed up my learning process I would’ve pep talk myself more. i would take on any opportunity to get in front of a camera or sit down with an artist just to create more content and slowly feel more confortable with the job.
as time went by, you get more and more used to it and you get more confident.
Luis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Luis Jairala. I have been in the television and entertainment industry for almost 15 years. I have hosted live television shows, interviewed a large amount of celebrities, artists, actors and personalities in the general and latino market. I have covered every major latin award red carpet such as Latin Grammys and Latin Billboards. I currently work for Olympusat. I am their Music Network Manager and I am also the host and reporter for one of their music networks, Ultra Fiesta.
I am very proud of my job. I have been with the company for almost 11 years. I have helped them develop 6 music networks from scratch. Acquiring music content, creating original content and assisted in celebrity focused marketing campaigns for their brands.
I have also worked for 2 local channels NBC5 and CBS 12’s former sister station Hola TV.
I am constantly the bridge to connect listeners and fans to their favorite artist. Every week I do different interviews and make sure I ask the right questions and create fun moments for fans to see their favorite talent and learn more about their song, their movie or product.
I went viral on social media with Ben Affleck when I made him speak Spanish and asked him his favorite word to which he responded “sacapuntas (pencil sharpener)” and also spoke about his favorite latin food. this particular clip caught the attention of major media outlets such as the Miami Herald. It made it to their print format and I proudly keep the clipping framed in my home office.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I am very picky with everything I do. I am more than a perfectionist and I pay attention to every detail. I think I have gained and earned the respect from colleagues in the industry because anything that has my name attached to it, wether is a network, an interview, a segment, a show, I make sure it’s very professional. Whenever I sit down to interview talent, publicists trust me because they know my questions will never be disrespectful.
sometimes I have many revisions in my projects because I want everything looking amazing. I have a great team and support system. my editor is my right hand and my other brain and he knows exactly what I like and how I want things done. he is the best and together we make things happen.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect is to know that the people that take the time to watch the work you have created are enjoying that moment. working in the entertainment industry you want to entertain. life comes with so many problems and situations. when I think of someone consuming what I create, wether is watching the music videos on the music television networks I manage, or take the time to watch my interviews to know more about their favorite artist or actor, I want people to forget their problems and/or anything negative they are dealing with and enjoy the time spend watching the content.
to know you can make someone smile with your work is rewarding.
