We were lucky to catch up with Luis Gomez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Luis, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
My brand or company name capture our essence as an entity. Sportunity: means a mix between Sports & Opportunity.
The opportunities that sports can bring to a person.
Our goal is to canalize all the benefits that sports can offer to society through products and services tailored to our users. In this particular case our soccer academy for children between 3 and 11 years old in Miami, Florida.
Sports can teach important lessons about different topics, no just soccer.
For example:
1.- Respect your rival.
2.- Follow te rules.
3.- Manage your time.
4.- Values.
5.- Friendship.
6.- Perseverance.
7.- Resilience.
And so much more.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Luis Gomez, I born in Venezuela, And I have been living in Miami since 2021.
Since I was 6 years old, I have been in contact with sport, first as an active participant and then as a sports manager.
Thanks to everything that sport has given me, the tools to develop myself and my way of being.
I would like to be able to transfer all this knowledge so that the families that live in my community can benefit and generate added value to everyone who is part of our ecosystem and becomes a multiplying factor.
With our soccer academy, we try to solve problems like:
sedentary lifestyle
bad communication
selfishness
motor skills
lack of role models
We are proud of helping many families not only to teach their children soccer, but to be able to develop as good people and creating a family environment where they can be comfortable and sure that they can reach their full potential as people in the future.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I arrived in Miami 2 and a half years ago, and in this time, we have been able to build a soccer academy that has an average of more than 80 children per season.
It has not been easy, taking into account that we come from a pandemic when the outdoors activities where banned, and also the fact that we are new to the market, compare to others academies that has been living in the ecosystem for years and had a big base of clients, But we started giving classes one on one, gaining the trust of the parents, preparing the classes with a lot of love and effort,
With the passage of time and lot of perseverance, we began to put together groups, have an additional venue, and today we already have more than 80 students on average per season.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
In my opinion having a budget to advertising is good. But the best strategy to keep growing is given to your customers / users the best possible service.
In our case, we prepare carefully our lessons in advanced, also innovating all the time, having new equipment so the kids have fun and always want to comeback.
In case of the parents, a continuum communication, always asking how we can improve, or being flexible with the makeup classes, or the payment agreements. Always giving options to be able to generate a win-win situation.
