We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luis Coronel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Luis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

My food business started just like a weekend entrepreneur idea between my college friends and I ….many of them was international students, they really was missing the homemade food , so I just created the right way to supply that need, offering really good homemade food, totally free at the beginning , and after too many succesful weekends , they pushed me to step out for the next level…..make this as official business , thats was the reason I create KANDELAS FOOD, a caribbean homemade catering concept .

Luis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I can say Kandelas offer a really unique homemade caribbean food, all our ingrdients are selectionaded from many diferent international markets, looking for keep the recipes with the exotic spices from all over caribbean countries, we fussion the rich flavors in all the specialite dishes we offer……..Our Empanadas are very popular in the diferent food festivals and farmer markets we attend during the whole year, also we made from scratch all our dipping sauces and hot sauces …..We guarantee a very unique and rich caribbean experience flavor .

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Best source for new clients are social media with a agressive marketing strategies, post every other day very unique content, including a high definition videos and pictures of our food…..also giving some free samples when we hit the farmer markets and food festivals .

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?

The first capital for my food business was funding by just saving money during long time to buy all the primary tools to project the business to the next level , like tents , burners , fridges, all was step by step …..and all with my own effort .
