We were lucky to catch up with Luis Bermudez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Luis, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
The Process started way back in 2016, Recently Honorably Discharged from the military and looking for what’s next for myself. After a few odd jobs, I landed a job at an Event Venue, and through that I was introduced to the world of events. and quite frankly I feel in love but I also excelled at what I was doing. Within 2 yrs I had worked my way into management and designing events of all kinds. Around 2019 after some hardships at work I left the event business all together. But that did not take away the love and passion I had for it. From 2019-2021 I would always find myself assisting people with event ideas and how to elevate the event visually, monetarily, etc. Then the Idea popped in my head if people are seeking my trusted opinion then maybe I can do this professionally. And that’s when Simply Perfect was born. Just an Idea in early 2021 I spent most of the year planning out the idea to become a reality. Brainstorming, Logo, Website, Legal Paperwork, Business plan etc. As the days past and the ideas became a todo list and the todo list became reality Simply Perfect was officially a business.
Luis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got started in the Event business in 2016 as a Dish Washer for a wedding venue, I worked my way up to the General Manager Position. During the Pandemic, I realize my passion was in fact creating and being a part of beautiful events and so Simply Perfect Event and Rental Studio was founded in 2021 after a few years hiatus from the event and rental business scene. We’ve been bringing the best selection of affordability, simplicity, and extravagance to Events in the Central Florida Area. How do you keep your team’s morale high?
One of the main pieces of advice is lead by example. I would never ask an employee or volunteer to do anything that I would not do. Also collaboration, I am always open to ideas to better the quality of an event or simplify a process. Just because I am considered “subject matter expert” does not mean I know everything. We live in a world in 2022 where its constant change. and that includes events.
I would say compassion, kindness, work life balance, I want my team to feel like we are one. We spend time away from families to create these experiences for others, then why should we not take care our own.
Team outings, support, love, etc.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One major lesson I had to unlearn was being a perfectionist. Not to say that we have events where its not the best of the best, but to say that the stress it adds to oneself and the team is unreasonable.
We never know how many mistakes are in a masterpiece is my motto. We can strive for perfection but it is no longer mandatory stress that I instill into the employees or the clients.
By unlearning that I have been able to calm clients, empathize with clients. And also understand employees. Building a stronger brand, a stronger team, and a stronger bond with clients to return and refer.
