We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Luis Alvarez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Luis below.
Hi Luis, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I’m sad that I am not as creative as I want to be, but my soul is happy that I am doing it.
I actually had a job in early 2024. It was cool, but the lack of purpose really punched me in the gut. Then again, who finds that in a day job? All power to those who have one or more though. It’s tough out here and trust me, I’ve tried to find one for myself. But by the grace of God, He’s got me elsewhere.

Luis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got the idea of starting a clothing brand in 2021 and named it Brown Sugar Garments. I was studying music production at a music school in Hollywood, and everything I made was dedicated to how it would feel to own something like that. The next quarter, I dropped out. Since then, I’ve been the face of Brown Sugar.
I’ve been blessed to share my gifts with friends by helping them with their projects. I’m usually asked to make one-of-one reworked clothing, merch, and advice on improving their music/artwork. Over time, I’ve learned how to do a lot of photography, sewing, & creative consulting. This is just the beginning.
I’ve mentioned that I work with friends. Who happen to be artists. But above all else, I see them as brothers. I prioritize my relationships with people. The art comes second. My clients are Picasso, I am the paintbrush, and vice versa. But I’m lucky to be surrounded by creative people. To this day, artists don’t know where to go to bring an idea to life. Let alone in The Valley. So when I hear about somebody with a dream, I tend to give them all my efforts. Simply because I wish I had that growing up.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
First, to be transparent. Some people tend to mask how they really feel. Art is subjective, and if we aren’t truthfully expressive about how we feel towards art, it would be a disservice all around. Artists stay stagnant, people stay lying, and a cap has been placed on growth. Domino effect.
The second thing is to be open-minded. That’s it.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
At the moment, it would be to show myself and the world that our dreams were meant to be lived by us, and for God. Our talents and skills are God-given, and positively utilizing these gifts makes Him proud.
