We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luh Red a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Luh, appreciate you joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
As an artist especially in today’s generation we commonly are tied in different activities in which some can hold us back from getting to where we need to be. I was in the streets and a lot came with that. A lot of my music is prone to what I’ve experienced or seen from my life of the streets with a razzle of storytelling. Without exposing too much i can say ive had my rough share of back and forth with law enforcement courts and judges, I’ve had run ins with opposition tho i never really referred to anyone as such that be them on that time and i have to get on that time with them to let em know im not a walk in the park. Biggest though i would say is jealous females would be my biggest downfall. I feel I would be a lot further had i not had so much focus on females as I should of had in my music but again all the experience i rap about comes from that so its a gift and curse thing. Jail time beefing with people and interacting with jealous women put me in bad jams I shouldn’t of been and should have learnt from them sooner
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started rapping back as a kid like when i was 9/10 years old i always knew how to do it but it was an hobby or for fun i rather say I didn’t think of it at da time as a career or something ill be pursuing. It wasn’t til bout few years back 2/3 years back my bro i call Lil’ man introduced me to a well known producer/engineer in Dallas WavyBandz i ended up linking with him and he kinda everyday would see how i was always coming in locking in with him he was like oh u fr fr “ starting getting real tight and brought me all type of attention and recognition from artists producers and labels bloggers too that seen potential in me alot of others saw but aint want me being bigger than them. My first project Code Red did 50k units streams and first visual hit 100k on YouTube my 2nd project followed up 2021 R.e.d. I am him did 20k units streams and 2nd visual did bout only 2k but that project really had not as much push as the first did. I love that project tho worked with Throwedtobin from Houston produced the whole album. I am currently in motion of branding my label and merch coming soon Details not fully official so i wont say anything about it as of yet. I also have music on SoundCloud that has some throwback that will blow minds. I can say im most proud of finding my artistic ways and sound i know who i am when im in the studio and i love that the best. It allows me to create the best content without feeling like im trying to fit in or be something im not.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Aw man i say just like anybody else lol i had maybe barely a thousand friends on Instagram but thanks to guys like WavyBandz Throwedtobin Chris Ireland who introduced me to telegram and using it to the best of my ability i started to grow and gain a lot from that my comments and likes went up heavily. I mostly cant leave out Johnfromaps who really gave me advice on what to do on my Instagram. Using hashtags and letting fans know who i am by interacting more. Because of that i feel my buzz has grew far more and has gain the likes of well known artist some being famous. I don’t want to look or seem like it’s clout chase so i wont mention names of who exactly but its artist with big accomplishments in their career so with that i feel greatly i will become signed or a big deal way sooner than later especially with the new music i will have this year
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Biggest lesson was i had to unlearn was probably stop being afraid of taking risk. You just gotta take em. Simple as that u cease the opportunity to capitalize on things while the door is open. Drop as much music as possible and never be afraid to ask people they opinion even in this troll stage era because any publicity is good publicity. You can take the good and the bad and learn on what it is you can do different next go around. And spend money you are the investment so you have to bet on yourself and realize you are going to take losses its how you bounce back from it. It came a time where I would drop music and only share it to my friends and out of 100 friends i shared it to only 30 would listen 15 would like it and only 7 or 8 would share it and i be mad like yall suppose to support me and be behind me. Realizing that i need opinions from people i never interacted with are the ones i need to get through and by doing so it made my stock rise im glad and happy i did that
