We were lucky to catch up with Lucy Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lucy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Starting my business b.ju floral, came from a very unexpected place. After I lost my job during the pandemic, I was feeling a bit lost, but I also saw it as a fresh start. I wanted to do something that would bring joy to others, and I’ve always had a love for flowers. So, I started small—offering flower subscriptions. The idea was simple: deliver fresh, beautiful flowers to people’s homes or offices regularly. I didn’t plan on becoming an event florist at first; it was more about creating moments of happiness with something as simple as flowers.
As it grew, I started to realize the demand for something more—something personalized. The excitement really came when I noticed how my clients’ faces lit up when they received their arrangements. It wasn’t just about the flowers, but the emotions they evoked. That’s when I knew I was onto something worthwhile. My approach was about making beauty accessible in everyday life, not just on special occasions.
What got me most excited was how it naturally evolved into event florals—weddings, parties—because people started asking me for it. The whole experience felt organic, and I just followed that path. Seeing how flowers could transform a space and elevate an event made it all the more rewarding. It wasn’t something I had planned from the start, but it became something that felt right.

Lucy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Lucy, the founder of b.ju floral, which I started in Los Angeles in 2020 during the pandemic. I’m the first person in my Korean family to live in America, which has been a huge part of my journey. I’ve been fortunate enough to train with florists from all over the world, and that diversity of experience really influences my work.
I offer floral designs primarily for events like weddings and private parties, but I also do custom arrangements. My goal is to make sure the flowers don’t just look good—they should also elevate the entire experience of an event. I love playing with colors, textures, and natural elements to create something that feels like an extension of the client’s vision.
One thing that sets b.ju floral apart is the personalized touch. I think of each arrangement as giving flowers a second life, transforming them into a piece that tells a story. It’s not just about placing flowers in a vase; it’s about creating an experience that feels unique and meaningful. I’m most proud of the connections I’ve built with clients—being part of someone’s special day or event is something I don’t take lightly.
If there’s one thing I’d love for people to know about b.ju floral, it’s that I truly care about the details and making sure each piece reflects something special. Whether it’s a large event or a small, intimate gathering, I pour my heart into every arrangement.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my favorite marketing stories is actually from when I first started my business. I knew I had to get the word out, but I wasn’t sure where to begin. So, I rolled up my sleeves and started emailing and DMing wedding planners and picnic rental companies around Los Angeles, introducing myself and my new business, b.ju floral. I offered to collaborate or provide florals for their events, hoping someone would take a chance on me.
One day, a picnic rental company responded and said they loved my style and wanted to work together for an outdoor event. That one connection led to more opportunities, and before I knew it, I had my foot in the door for other collaborations. It was such a simple strategy—just reaching out—but it really showed me the power of putting yourself out there. That early hustle taught me that personal connections go a long way in building a business and that led me to eventually being featured on a Netflix TV show with that same picnic company!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media was a mix of planning and organic growth. One thing I always did, especially in the beginning, was carry my business card at events to network. I’d make sure to introduce myself, hand out my card, and follow up with a friendly message or DM afterward. It was a simple but effective way to connect with potential clients and collaborators.
Another strategy that helped a lot was planning collaborations with other businesses on Instagram. I’d reach out to event planners, venues, or even photographers, and we’d team up to showcase each other’s work. Not only did this help me grow my audience, but it also let me tap into different markets that I wouldn’t have reached on my own. It wasn’t just about posting beautiful florals—it was about building relationships and creating content that was valuable to my audience. That combination of personal connections and strategic collaborations really helped me grow on social media!
