We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lucy Dixon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lucy, appreciate you joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I’m really proud of how House of Lemon operates differently from other live music and event consultancies. Even though I’ve had chances to expand and grow the business, I’ve chosen to keep it boutique and manageable. This lets me focus on building strong relationships with both clients and performers, which I find incredibly rewarding.
I believe in paying my performers above the industry standard rates . I know their worth, and I see how being well-compensated makes them more motivated and happier which then leads to amazing performances that really wow our clients.
We go beyond offering competitive pay. We foster a supportive environment for our musicians and performers by ensuring clear communication, providing logistical support and meeting all their needs to deliver outstanding performances. It’s not just about the money; it’s about respect and professionalism. This approach helps us attract and retain top talent, ensuring our clients receive the best entertainment possible, leading to high recommendations and repeat business.
Client relationships are incredibly important to me. We go above and beyond to ensure every event is tailored to the client’s vision. This level of customisation is often more detailed and client-focused than the more standardised packages offered by many other companies. By really listening to our clients and understanding their needs, we can deliver unique and memorable events that exceed their expectations.
By focusing on quality and experience rather than just volume, I feel that we stand out from other businesses in the industry. We prioritise the unique impact of each event, making sure every performance is special and memorable. This holistic approach – recognising the importance of happy, well-supported performers and delighted clients – is a key part of our success at House of Lemon.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I set up House of Lemon after years of working in the music industry in various roles – mainly running live music and entertainment events such as festival stages and music venues as well as managing bands. I’ve been lucky enough to work with many household names including Ed Sheeran and Mark Ronson and witness first hand the incredible talent throughout the industry. House of Lemon came about after realising how hard it is for people to book a high-quality band for their events (private parties, weddings and corporate events). Other agencies offer hundreds of different performers but seem to have no filter when it comes to quality.
We have been executing musical brilliance for over ten years and are one of the leading boutique live music and entertainment consultancy’s in the UK. We are underpinned by seamless service and a carefully curated, handpicked collection of talent who perform at luxury parties, weddings & brand events throughout the UK and beyond. Our unique roster and unrivalled level of personalised service and expertise, has led to an impressive client list including Sky TV, Three Mobile, Microsoft. MetroBank, PWC and Budweiser.
I pride myself in supplying my clients with fantastic performers and musicians who make their living from recording and touring with established, well-known artists as well as playing at high-end events. Not only are our performers the best that money can buy – they are all charming, lovely people who make my office one of my favourite places to be. I get a real high from working on events, enhancing experiences and ensuring my clients have the best service possible. I have built up a little black book of amazing luxury suppliers, great brands and exciting people to work with.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth and recommendations has been the best source of new clients for my business.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
A passion for my work, honesty, humility and professionalism.
