Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lucy Beato. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lucy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
One of the most life-changing risks I’ve taken was moving from New York to Florida to start a new life. I left behind my family, my career, and my friends, all in pursuit of something bigger—becoming an entrepreneur. At the time, it felt like a huge leap of faith. I was leaving behind the comfort of everything I knew for the unknown.
The decision wasn’t easy. I had a lot of fears: I didn’t know anyone in Florida, I didn’t have any formal experience in entrepreneurship or leadership, and I was stepping into an industry I had no prior exposure to. Starting from scratch in a completely new place, where everything was unfamiliar, was both thrilling and terrifying at the same time.
But I knew that if I stayed in New York, I would always wonder “what if.” I decided that I wanted to build something on my own, create something meaningful, and push myself beyond the limits I had grown comfortable with. I was excited about the potential for growth and the opportunity to shape my own future, but the unknown was daunting.
Looking back, it was a risk that paid off. The challenges were real: from establishing a business to adjusting to a new lifestyle and culture. But over time, I built new relationships, gained valuable entrepreneurial experience, and grew both personally and professionally. Today, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, and taking that leap to move to Florida was the pivotal moment that set everything else in motion.
While the fears and doubts were overwhelming at times, they ultimately taught me that the best things in life often come from taking risks, even when you can’t predict the outcome.

Lucy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Over the past 16 years as an entrepreneur, I’ve encountered and overcome it all. From buying two established businesses and learning their ins and outs, to addressing employee turnover challenges stemming from resistance to new ownership the journey has been anything but smooth. I survived a market crash, closed, sold, reopened, and even relocated salons, all while weathering the profound impacts of COVID.
On a personal level, I fought through cancer, endured a divorce, became a single mother, and rebuilt my life while recovering from illness. These experiences taught me the true meaning of resilience and the strength of the human spirit.
Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every trial has been a lesson, shaping me into a stronger, more resilient woman and equipping me with the wisdom to face any challenge ahead. Today, I stand as a woman of unshakable faith, a confident leader, and someone ready to embrace the future with courage and optimism.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, I’ve had to unlearn some key lessons.
First, I believed everything had to be perfect to succeed. This led me to take on too much, trying to control every aspect of the business, which ultimately resulted in burnout. I learned that delegation and trusting others are key to growth.
I also had to let go of the idea that entrepreneurship is a straight path. The journey is full of ups and downs, and I quickly realized that flexibility and resilience are essential. The ability to pivot when things aren’t working is crucial to long-term success.
Lastly, I’ve learned it’s never too late to reinvent yourself or shift your business model. Adaptability and innovation are vital for staying competitive.
Despite the challenges, the rewards of being your own boss and building something meaningful make it all worth it. The freedom to create and shape your future is incredibly fulfilling.
