We were lucky to catch up with Lucinda Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lucinda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Hey Everyone My Name Is Lucinda Smith And I Simply Believe That My Entire Life Has been About Taking A Risk. I Grew Up In Foster Care Until The Age Of 9 When My Siblings And I Were Adopted By My Parents Darrell And Benita Short. Being A Product Of Foster Care Where I Found My Self Moving To 10 Different Homes Before I Was Adopted The Biggest Risk Was Loving And Opening My Heart To People Over And Over Again Hoping For A Different Result. This Is What Drives The Work I Do Today. I Believe The World Deserves True Authentic Versions Of Us All. Unfortunately, We Live In A Society That Forces You To Identify With The Latest Trend Or Group Of People That Many People Have Grown To Shy Away From Who They Really Are To Make The World Around Them Feel Better. Singing Has Always Been An Outlet Of Expression For Me. As a Child It Served As A Way To Make Friends Because People Didn’t Ask Me Many Questions About Where I Came From All They Knew Is That I Could Sing. As I Continued To Grow Music Became A Form Of Expression That Helped Me Feel My Authentic Self. Creating Music That Encourages, Lifts, And Heals Has Been One Of The Most Rewarding Things I’ve Been Able To Do. I Am Still Writing And Hope To Record More Music Soon But Now A Days I Can Be Found Planting A Church Which Serves To Be A Place Where People From All Walks Of Life Are Seen, Valued, And Restored. It Truly Brings Me Joy To See People Free To Be Themselves And Operating In The Things That Bring Them Joy. The Biggest Risk I Currently Take Is Allowing People Access To My Heart So That They Too Can See That They Are Not A Product Of Their Trauma Or Past. Their Trauma And Past Helped To Cultivate Their Purpose. Everyone Has Purpose But It Starts With Embracing The Things That Hurt,And Make Us Different.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Honestly, I Have Been Singing All Of My Life. However, It Wasn’t Until High School That I Really Started Leaning Into Using My Voice To Inspire. I Recorded My Very First Single In 2018 And Then Shortly After Realized That I Didn’t Want To Just Sing But That I Wanted To Encourage People With My Story And Serve As Listening Ear To Those Who Have Felt Over Looked Or Misunderstood. In 2020 I Began Hosting Purpose Conferences That Served To Help People Identify Why They Have Not Pursued Their Purpose And Serve As A Means Of Accountability To Those Who Have Identified What They Are Purposes To Do But Need Encouragement Along The Way. This Year 2023 I Began Working On The Planting Of A Church And Look To Launch It Fully In 2024.
