Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lucie Schwartz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lucie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Producers and storytellers have a unique privilege and responsibility to shape how people see the world. Our work isn’t just about entertaining audiences; it’s about informing, inspiring, and sometimes even challenging perspectives. Early in my career, I was drawn to broadcast journalism because it’s a pillar of democracy, a means of preserving truth, and a powerful tool for combating misinformation. Now, more than ever, this discipline needs to be protected and upheld. I hope the stories I’ve helped bring to life have provided comfort in difficult times, sparked curiosity, or inspired meaningful change.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a producer who has built a nearly 20-year long career telling meaningful stories across platforms and formats. As a dual citizen of France and the United States, I bring a global perspective to my work, collaborating with diverse teams to create content that inspires and connects audiences. From network television and documentary film to branded content and integrated marketing, I blend creative storytelling with strong organizational and strategic skills.
Most recently, I produced the Boot Barn 2024 Fashion Show and contributed to L’Oréal’s Women of Worth campaign, channeling my passion for impactful storytelling into major brand initiatives. Throughout my career, I’ve managed talent, shaped narratives, and overseen creative vision both on location and in post-production. My past projects include CNN’s United Shades of America, Chelsea Handler’s Netflix documentary series Chelsea Does…, and MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show.
I love what I do because storytelling is a powerful force for truth, connection, and change. My career has given me access to extraordinary moments, whether sitting in an FBI surveillance truck, standing in the same room as a president, or capturing deeply personal stories during pivotal times in people’s lives. Whether I’m producing high-stakes live television, developing branded content, or crafting corporate narratives, my goal remains the same: to create stories that matter.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Adaptability has been a driving force in my career. The majority of our work is freelance, which means most of us have held countless roles, worn many hats, and learned to adapt quickly. In many ways, the very definition of a producer is someone who knows how to pivot on a dime.
Freelancing also comes with dry spells, moments when work is scarce, and it takes creativity, not just in storytelling, but in figuring out how to make a living without compromising your values. For me, that has meant continuously evolving and applying my storytelling skills across different mediums. I started in journalism and news, transitioned into documentary film, moved into reality TV, and now focus on branded content and strategic storytelling for major companies. Each shift has been a reinvention, but the common thread has always been the same: finding compelling ways to connect with an audience.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is the ability to tell stories that resonate with people, whether it’s making them feel seen, inspiring change, or offering an escape.
Unlike many fields, the arts give us the rare opportunity to create something that has a life of its own and continues to evolve long after it’s been shared. It’s a deeply lifelike process, and knowing that our work can continue to have an impact makes the creative journey truly rewarding.
