Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lucía Roig Lago. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lucía, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
It might be very cliché, but my hero is my mother. Ever since I was little, I saw how gentle and generous she was with everyone, no matter what, and as the years went by, I watched those qualities—which she used to think were her greatest weakness—turn into her greatest strength, and she managed to save a company that was about to shut down. It was a metal industry company, a sector dominated by men and traditionally quite rough, and she brought it back to life as a compassionate woman who believed in people’s kindness. I saw her have doubts, go through moments of frustration, but she always gets back up with a smile and turns those moments into new steps to walk on. Watching her, I understood that by being yourself and making the most of your own innate strengths, you can forge your own path and go further than you ever imagined.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Lucía, and I stepped into the world of art as a student two years ago, and I’m still walking that path, still learning. I’ve always been passionate about drawing and telling stories through images—I aspire to bring my clients’ ideas and stories to life in a visual way. To give voice and color to the tales they carry within.
Something I believe sets me apart, and something I’m proud of, is that I can find a magical perspective in almost anything when it comes to design or concept art. I can turn even the most ordinary things into an interesting story. I love working with narratives, especially historical, fantasy, and romantic ones, and I think it’s that passion that makes a difference—even if I don’t have much professional experience yet.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to illustrate stories that bring smiles to those who read them—stories that inspire, uplift, or simply show something beautiful that makes people feel happy.
Thinking more long-term, one of my biggest goals is to illustrate stories set in real historical settings, portrayed in a realistic and immersive way. I believe the best way to learn about history is by enjoying it, which is why I want to create or illustrate meaningful stories that take place in different historical moments—stories that help people understand how life was back then: what people wore, what they ate, what customs they had, and what events shaped their world. Through storytelling and art, I hope to make history feel alive, engaging, and full of wonder.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are two books that have deeply inspired me and truly shifted the way I think, giving me more clarity and direction: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and Lady of the Nile by Pauline Gedge. Both books completely captivated me with their storytelling—I was fully immersed in their worlds.
After reading them, I realized that this is exactly what I want to work with: stories like The Name of the Wind, filled with fantasy and wonder, and novels like Lady of the Nile that bring history to life—like the story of Queen Hatshepsut. They showed me how powerful stories can be, and made me want to be part of creating worlds that move others the way those stories moved me.
