We recently connected with Lucia Rivera and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lucia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Good question. I believe there to be two noticeable things we do differently from the industry standard. First, the fresh quality food we serve, and second, the service we provide. We are not fast food. We are good quality food from a food truck. Expect a wait time when you eat with us because fresh is best and that is what you get when you eat with us. When you eat with Lucy’s Puerto Rican Kitchen you know your meal will be made for you. We will always offer our customers high-quality food from our “food truck”.
At our College Park location, we offer an outdoor dining experience or car delivery service. Sit in the shade or sit in your car, and we will deliver your meal to you. You can also skip the line by ordering over the phone with us. This helps keep wait time at the window down for our customers and avoid overcrowding.
We amaze many customers when they first visit us. We are not a brick-and-mortar restaurant pushing out fresh quality food, we are Lucy’s Puerto Rican Kitchen. A family of 5, serving the community of College Park from a “food truck”.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Lucy. I am a mother of 4 and wife to my business partner Axel. I am the hands behind Lucy’s Puerto Rican Kitchen. A few years ago my husband purchased me a food truck and we licensed our business and brought it to College Park. We have been offering freshly made Puerto Rican food to College Park for three years since 2019, and look forward to many more. Our business is family owned and operated giving you the same consistent service every time. We pride ourselves on fresh is best. Made-to-order is what sets us apart from the rest creating every meal I make for you and only you. We believe in quality over quantity at Lucy’s Puerto Rican Kitchen. We look forward to feeding you and yours. We also offer catering services that can be located on our website.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my social media audience with 0 followers. Sometimes that is where you have to start from. I started posting pictures of my meals and little by little I gained followers. My advice would be to stay consistent. Keep the content simple and know what you want to post before posting it. I like to personalize my stories and keep my page full of content that has to do with the business. In my case, food.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of new clients comes from word of mouth and social media. We get a lot of, “my friend says this is the best place to eat”. I always smile when I hear this. It reassures me that how and what I am doing is the way to keep doing it.
