Lucia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
In 2017, I found myself getting a divorce after 9 years of marriage and raising a 16year old young man. I was feeling defeated and needed some personal inspiration. Music had always been a healing space for me. Especially, since I was raised in the Hip Hop era. I had seen that a local DJ, by the name of DJ Tyrone Bizzon Miller ( aka DJ Bizzon) offering free DJ lessons through a evening program called Scratch Session at a local Art gallery named Walker Point Center for the Arts. The Session lasted approximately 3 months, one time a week.
I consider my art of crafting my DJ Skills a blessing and would not have speed up the process at all. I would have loved the opportunity to have begun sooner.
The most essential skills for me is knowledge of self, knowledge of music and studied the different aspects of music and genres.
The largest obstacle in my Midwest city is gaining the respect as a self managing woman in a male dominated DJ field .
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
