We recently connected with Lucia Matuonto and have shared our conversation below.
Lucia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
From a young age, I harbored dreams of becoming both a writer and a painter. I think my first love has always been books. Ever since I was a kid, I always loved reading and writing. I would create stories as a kid, I would prefer books over dolls…. Even if my friends would come over, they’d want to play with dolls, but I’d just want to keep reading, so I even preferred my books over my friends. My journey as a writer began at the age of 10 when I started keeping journals, a practice I continued for many years. Initially, my intention was to transform these journals into a memoir, but life led me down different paths, and unfortunately, I lost those precious manuscripts along the way.
Writing became my primary outlet for expressing my emotions, and I viewed drawing as an extension of this creative process. I held a strong belief that my passion for art would naturally evolve into a fulfilling profession as I progressed through life’s experiences and challenges.

Lucia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Lucia Matuonto, the host of The Relatable Voice podcast and founder of Relatable Media. I am a bestselling author of Zoe the Crab book series and Out of The Box. I also have a talk show entitled Uncut with Lucia by WorldAuthors.org. Besides being a writer I also paint and sometimes create my own illustrations.
I began this journey in February 2021 and have since published 360 episodes. It all started during the pandemic, right after I released my first book, ‘Zoe The Crab.’
I’ve always been more interested in the storyteller than the story itself. As a podcast enthusiast, I realized my passion for hearing others’ stories. Being stuck in lockdown during the pandemic made me miss traveling and meeting people worldwide, something I used to do living in six different countries. The podcast became my way to connect with people globally.
I strongly believe that, regardless of our backgrounds or opinions, we can always relate to each other through our stories. My goal with this podcast is to foster these connections.
A fortunate twist was that the podcast became a great platform for first-time authors to promote their work. Having been in their shoes, I understand the challenges of book promotion today. This idea shaped the Relatable Voice podcast, which has now grown into Relatable Media, home to both the podcast and ‘The Relatable Voice’ magazine, helping storytellers reach a broader audience.
Today, it has grown into Relatable Media, which is the company behind the Relatable Voice podcast and our magazine The Relatable Voice, which helps storytellers reach a wider audience. In reality, Relatable Media serves as a bridge, connecting authors, thinkers, and various creatives with diverse audiences through a wide spectrum of media channels. Our approach includes participation in prestigious book fairs, and authoring guest posts for renowned publications like WorldAuthors.org, BrandEducation, and BlackBird News, among others. I’m proud to have started it all by myself and to have attracted incredible individuals who now form a vibrant and growing community.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to inspire a diverse audience and facilitate the promotion of artists’ work in a cost-effective manner. I’m well aware of the challenges that come with promoting books, podcasts, and various creative projects. It’s disheartening to see many writers abandon their publishing dreams due to the perceived high costs involved.
In addition to this, I aim to provide a supportive platform that not only makes promotion affordable but also fosters a sense of community among artists. Collaboration, mutual encouragement, and shared resources are at the core of my vision. Together, we can break down the barriers that often hinder aspiring writers and creators from realizing their full potential.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
What I find most rewarding about my journey is the opportunity to connect with fellow creatives. Engaging with them, and delving into their innovative concepts for screenplays, books, or speeches, is truly remarkable.
This creative environment fills me with immense joy, reminding me that I’m not alone in the ongoing process of generating fresh ideas.
