We recently connected with Lucas Tanthorey and have shared our conversation below.
Lucas, appreciate you joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Like anyone, I’ve had moments where the day-to-day can wear you down. That’s true in any job. The difference is, when you’re building something of your own, the work has a bigger purpose than just collecting a paycheck. For me, it’s about helping people conquer fears, find confidence, and transform their lives. That’s what keeps me going.
The truth is, not everyone loves their job—I feel lucky that I do. I walk into the gym every day with a smile on my face because it doesn’t feel like work. It feels like a calling.
One client’s story really reminds me of why I chose this path. He first came to us while on five different blood pressure medications. At first, his goal was just to move more and try something new. But between the workouts and the community, he found motivation and accountability. Over time, he dropped 100 pounds and eventually came off every single one of those medications. Moments like that are priceless—they remind me that I’m not just running a business, I’m changing lives.
That’s why, even on the hardest days, I wouldn’t trade this for a “regular job.” The rewards go far beyond money or routine—they’re measured in transformations.

Lucas, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I actually started out as a lifelong competitive skateboarder, which taught me discipline, resilience, and how to get back up after every fall. One night I met a guy at a party who happened to be a boxing trainer. He invited me to come check out his gym, and from the very first session I was hooked. Boxing gave me that same rush of challenge and creativity I found in skating, but with a deeper sense of focus and community.
I started as a student, then began helping out around the gym, eventually training others, and step by step worked my way into running the entire operation. Along the way, I realized that boxing solves very different problems for different people. Some walk in because they want to compete, others are looking to lose weight, and many just want a workout that feels exciting and different. But what often happens is they discover something far bigger: confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging.
What sets us apart is the community we’ve built. We’ve got people training side by side who might never cross paths otherwise—different professions, backgrounds, and life stories all coming together around the ring. Friendships are formed, limits are pushed, and people find strength they didn’t know they had.
One of the stories I’m most proud of is Craig. He came to us at 50 years old with a bucket-list dream of having just one fight. By the time he was 55, he had stepped into the ring three times—and won them all. That’s what we’re about: showing people they can reach potential beyond what they imagined, and giving them the encouragement, training, and support to actually get there.

Have you ever had to pivot?
There was a point in my career when I realized I had completely capped out. I was working for someone else, and no matter how hard I pushed, I could feel the ceiling pressing down on me. Promises were made about growth and new opportunities, but they never came. The keys to the next level weren’t mine to hold—and I knew if I stayed, I’d remain stagnant.
That’s when I had to pivot. It wasn’t easy. I had a family and kids depending on me, so stepping away from the “security” of a steady paycheck was a real leap of faith. But I also knew that if I wanted to grow, I had to bet on myself.
The biggest shift wasn’t just starting my own business—it was learning to speak up, ask for help, and surround myself with people who would push me and support me. That pivot gave me freedom: freedom to create, to build something that reflected my values, and to finally do what I needed to do for me and for the community I wanted to serve.
Looking back, it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made—but it was also the turning point that allowed me to step into the life I’m living now.

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner’s journey with me started in the most authentic way—he walked into the gym where I was working, 40 years old and finally ready to give boxing a try after years of wanting to. Like so many of our members, he came in looking for a coach, and that’s how we connected.
Over the years we trained together, building not just skills but trust. I even had the honor of working his corner for a fight in Atlantic City, which is the kind of experience that bonds you for life. By the time I was ready to step out and build something of my own, he was one of the first people to encourage me to go for it.
We had long conversations about what each of us could bring to the table. He knew my drive and vision, and I knew his belief in me was real. What made it work was the relationship we’d already built—he didn’t just invest in a business idea, he invested in a person he trusted. And that’s been the foundation of our partnership ever since.
