We were lucky to catch up with Lucas Lockwood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lucas thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Embarking on the journey of being an actor and producer for TV and film is like diving into a wild adventure. It’s not just about talent and education – it’s about embracing your love for storytelling and turning it into a crazy passion that drives you forward.
So, after high school, instead of jumping straight into the Hollywood scene, I opted for some serious acting classes and workshops. You know, honing those skills I picked up from drama classes, show choir, and belting it out on musical theater stages. It was like my own little boot camp before the big show.
I delved deep into the art of acting, learning techniques, tweaking my voice, and even mastering the art of improvisation. And then, of course, I took the leap into the big leagues – Los Angeles. Student films became my playground, where I built a portfolio with headshots, resumes, and reels, like my own mini blockbuster collection.
But, let’s talk reality checks – auditions. Rejections? Oh yeah, they were practically my audition buddies. But each rejection became a lesson, a reminder to keep pushing, improving, and growing as an actor. It’s like the more ‘no’s you get, the hungrier you become for that ‘yes.’
Networking was a game-changer. I rubbed shoulders with directors, writers, and fellow producers – basically, the VIPs of the industry. Transitioning into production felt natural, and suddenly, my sphere of influence was broader than ever.
Film festivals, industry hangouts, and online communities became my stomping grounds. I wasn’t just making connections; I was building relationships with mentors, colleagues, and friends who fast-tracked my goals and added layers to my creative vision.
So, yeah, it’s been a rollercoaster – education, hands-on experience, bouncing back from setbacks, and building a network that’s like my own Hollywood entourage. That’s how I’ve been weaving my way through the crazy world of storytelling, both in front of and behind the camera.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello, I’m Lucas Carvalho Lockwood, a professional Brazilian-born actor based in Los Angeles. I bring over a decade of experience in the film industry. Acting has been more than just a career for me—it’s become a profound part of my life journey. I discovered my passion for storytelling early on, realizing the incredible power that acting holds as a medium to give a voice to those whose stories might otherwise remain untold. Through film, I’ve embraced the challenge of stepping into the shoes of diverse characters with unique backgrounds. This process has allowed me to learn about myself continually and deepened my ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
My aspiration extends beyond the screen; I strive to be a role model and inspiration for current and future generations. Leading by example, spreading love, and contributing to those in need are the values I hold dear. While acting is my primary passion, I find immense joy in motivating others to pursue their dreams without limitations.
My commitment to making a positive impact has led me to volunteer, speak, and perform on prominent platforms, including FOX, HBO, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. You can watch me on shows such as S.W.A.T., The Terminal List, Ballers, American Gangsters, and Movies like A Miracle Before Christmas. I’ve shared my experiences in schools, children’s hospitals, and nursing homes, reaching diverse audiences and spreading the message of inspiration.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of training and working alongside renowned actors such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Bruce Willis, Jean Smart, Shemar Moore, LeToya Luckett, Morris Chestnut, Donald Faison, Abbie Cornish, and Courtney Eaton. My journey has also involved learning from top acting coaches in Hollywood, including Lesly Kahn, Annie Grindlay, and David Rountree, whose clientele includes Tiffany Haddish and Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek. As I grew in knowledge and experience in storytelling through acting, I expanded my creative world. I delved into producing T.V. and film here in Hollywood and opened up my own production company, Lockwood Entertainment. Producing projects has given me new lenses through which to share stories, which have an advanced footprint in the entertainment world.
While the film industry serves as one vessel to inspire and bring positivity, I have a range of hobbies that complement my life. Whether it’s indulging in my love for movies, engaging in sports, embarking on road trips, or challenging myself as a CrossFit athlete, I find fulfillment in a diverse array of pursuits.
In essence, my professional and personal pursuits converge to create a tapestry of experiences aimed at inspiring, touching lives, and breathing positivity into the world.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Early in my career, I was fully committed to pursuing acting as my sole avenue into the entertainment industry. However, after years of dedicating myself to the craft, I found myself at a place where I recognized the need for a significant pivot in my approach. The realization struck that my ideas and creativity were, in essence, on standby, awaiting casting directors to hire me, and this sparked a shift in my career trajectory. As I pondered the idea, I felt a divine conviction from God to do more in the entertainment world. I gathered that I could bring my creative visions to life and help others do the same. This insight motivated me to launch a production company, Lockwood Entertainment—an endeavor through which I could proactively produce projects aligned with my creative vision and collaborate with fellow artists to transform their concepts into reality.
This decision marked a strategic move toward a more entrepreneurial and multifaceted engagement with the entertainment industry. While continuing my pursuit of acting, I embraced the challenges and rewards of operating a production company. This shift demanded a considerable increase in time and effort. Yet, the innate satisfaction of actively shaping projects and contributing to the artistic ideas of others made this newfound journey worthwhile and exciting.
The establishment of my production company allowed me to remain dedicated to my acting career and created an avenue for continuous creative expression and collaboration. This dual-focus approach has enabled me to enjoy storytelling even more, allowing me to contribute to the industry in multiple capacities.
Navigating this transition was challenging, but the sense of purpose and the ability to channel my creativity into meaningful projects have made the journey exceptionally rewarding and exciting to see what awaits.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is rooted in a distinct mission. At its core, I aim to craft narratives that not only shed a positive light on the diverse realities of people’s back stories but also resonate as compelling and evocative tales. I see my stories leaving a memorable impact, inspiring audiences to aspire towards more significant personal and societal contributions. My overarching goal is cultivating a legacy flooded with creativity, positivity, and love. The world is currently wrestling with various challenges, and I believe that storytelling can be a powerful catalyst for positive change.
I am confident in my conviction that meaningful change requires proactive efforts, and I am committed to being a force for transformation within my family and communities.
