We recently connected with Luca Di Fabio and have shared our conversation below.
Luca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Mundane is a word often used to describe something boring and uninteresting. However, there’s a secondary meaning to the world that changes the whole thing. Mundane also refers to things of this world rather than spiritual or heavenly. Both of these seemingly different definitions represents the kind of people, stories and art we are attracted to as a publication. Mundane Magazine seeks to highlight the most exciting and unique creatives that do everything but mundane things.
Luca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My idea was to mesh together all the things I love (music, fashion and culture) in one platform which is how Mundane started.
As a musician, I wanted to provide a platform for emerging artists to shine and share their art and as a fashion aficionado, I thought it would be cool to curate an exclusive selection of edgy and innovative designers and sell their pieces on my store. That’s the essence of Mundane; a platform for edgy and unique designers to sell their pieces and an online magazine to highlight the most eccentric artists from all over the world.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When it comes to creative work, you need to learn that your work has to serve a purpose and convey a message. Many times you are so in love with your work and don’t realize that it’s not as effective and piercing as it should be. When it comes to magazines and photography, in particular, you need to learn how to put aside your personal taste and create something that not only spreads beauty but most importantly that tells a story. Whether you’re featuring a musician, artist or a fashion editorial, the end goal is to tell THEIR story. Possibly in the most powerful and impactful way. Quite often less is WAY more!

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
Being a fully self funded company, near death moments are always around the corner especially in the creative industry. However, when Covid hit in 2020 and lockdowns started spreading throughout the world we entered the black hole. We had just started gaining traction and were about to announce a bunch of new projects and partnerships which in a matter of days had to be cancelled. That mental a lot of potential revenue vanishing. After all, that was probably the most crucial moment for the company and for myself as a leader: nothing will make you stronger than a massive crisis!
