We were lucky to catch up with Luana Maria Seu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Luana Maria, thanks for joining us today. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
I genuinely believe we’re nothing without the community that stands behind our craft—our adventures, and all the wild, delusional ideas that somehow manage to become reality. I can wholeheartedly say I’m surrounded by the most loving and supportive friends—people who not only accept me exactly as I am (completely crazy), but who also cheer on every one of my “last-minute, delusional, intense, and borderline dangerous” ideas, and show up prepared to enjoy every creative endeavour together!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Luana Maria Seu.
I’m a photographer, director, producer, and creative director based in New York.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I firmly believe that being a good person matters just as much as working hard—and that mindset is the reason I’ve been able to live fully from my craft. This city is full of talented photographers, artists, and brilliant minds, yet what has kept me consistently working is that I pour everything I have into every session, no matter the size. Everyone matters to me—the big clients, the small businesses, the actors who come in for a simple portrait. Every single one of them deserves my full attention and my absolute best.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I had to learn that, but the person who taught me—back when I was 22 or 23—was my good friend Paul. He came into my life at a time when I wasn’t even dreaming of becoming a full-time photographer. Somehow, his enthusiasm for being surrounded by creatives, his drive to grow, and his constant hunger to learn inspired me to do the same. We became a team. We pushed each other almost daily—to create, to connect, to invent, and to turn “the basement” (which was actually my apartment at the time) into our creative playground. And the rest is history!
