We were lucky to catch up with LS Lane recently and have shared our conversation below.
LS, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
My works have been misunderstood since I began flying solo in my music entertainment endeavors. It could be of my own fault at times, but I most believe it is a misperception from my peers based on my exterior, especially being an avid femcee with years of experience under my belt. There is an image and persona that is highly accepted and advised when it comes to black female entertainers, in the hip-hop genre primarily. I am instantly flagged because I carry the appearance that hip-hop culture claims should be glamorized but at the same time ostracized because of my natural beauty, (they say blackness).
I could share many stories, but I will only give a couple of examples knowing that many would bring up some old feelings that I don’t care to feel at this moment in my herstory. But, they will soon be shared with the world..
Being a female artivist, my topics and concepts always carry a message of independence, freedom, women’s right’s and empowerment, and revolutionary content. What I have come to notice now that I am older, is that my male counterpart doesn’t want me to speak on these topics. Rather than encourage me and stand with me I have been approached with, “were you talking about me in that verse”, “change this to this”, “wear this and be uncomfortable”, “sex sells”, “you don’t need that”, etc… Well, they have all been wrong all along. This alone has left me in many dead ends needing to re-route my plan, recharge, and start all over again. I don’t want to make this about gender, but about facts. We know the truths that lie here. Over 25 years of performance and songwriting experience I have had no misunderstandings with any woman that I have collaborated with in the music business.
Being misunderstood and mischaracterized is extremely tiresome when you are trying to show and prove that you are capable, that you are worthy, and that you are one of the hardest working females that one will ever meet who is able to deliver on a professional level while staying focused on the goal and not an individual. It almost seems like that is not allowed on the artistic level in most areas these days – You Must Follow The Trend. So what is one to do? Pave your own way , show and tell your story- beat your own drum right. Those before me never lost when they danced to the beat of their own drum. Though I speak and flow in slanguistics and the English language only a few will understand. No more explaining.
It’s complicated for some I guess, but we must learn to listen and pay attention to our partners, not just move on what your ego wants for yourself. Stop waisting this precious time where diamonds could be cut and history can be made with every effort. My motto is GetLive or GetLost
LS, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began rapping my freshman year of high school. I knew that I was attracted to the stage and performance at a young age before I even understood the arts. As I look back now over a 25 plus year span, I am sitting here like, “WoW! How grateful and how blessed I have been”. I have toured, rapped, sung, danced, produced, developed, written all genres of music with over 300 written pieces.
I started seriously focusing on my music right after high school. I instantly began to perform in my hometown of Louisville, Ky. I was asked to be a part of music groups and events, I was even approached by a few managers who believed in my works.
On the One Records was the first labeled I worked under in Louisville. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in January 2000 and pretty much got straight to work in the community. There was so much to get involved with and I did it all!!!! It was so fun and really propelled me forward until I began to be misunderstood and not taken seriously as the female artist that I was developing into. I was already maturing and not wanting to be a part of the trend game, I just wanted to make good music that had messages to the world, not just the neighborhoods and community. I began to explore different opportunities and there were music partners who truly believed in me and they showed that by introducing me to people, putting me in certain rooms and settings and allowing me to work my act. I toured with corporate bands for 10 years singing, shaking, and dancing like a showgirl of the new century-that was so much fun and developed me into something that is a force to be reckoned with. I gained so much knowledge, skill, and stage presence during this prime time that I could never loose -I cherish this moment forever.
Today, I am the owner of Adnoc Entertainment and Friends of Our Family, soon to include (501c3) SOG, I’ll speak more on SOG in our next update. All of the experience gained over the years have honed my skills and business knowledge in the music industry and in any business actually. Adnoc Entertainment also houses Adnoc Publishing and Cheer Pro opportunities. Once SOG is activated we will begin working on educating young women about the music business, every level of it and how to be their own boss with integrity unapologetically effectively without any misconceptions. Adnoc Entertainment also produces music for other up and coming artists and songwriters. We offer professional advise and leads to the right arena. There are other artists who have made the same move but what sets my companies apart is its integrity and a sense of urgency in supporting your needs. I even ask what would you like. I like to gift my clients and surprise them with unexpected appreciations throughout the year because they mean that much to me as do my music supporters.
Stay Tuned because Adnoc has a music compilation album dropping in August 2022, a new music video, and quite a few hit singles set for release throughout the remainder of the year.

I am dedicated to the cause, I respect and appreciate hardwork and talent and I am here to ride with you if you can ride with me too. We can accomplish so much together $$$. We have heard so much, “focus on you..”, I completely agree, but there are a lot of times where we have to come out of ourselves and focus on those who support us and want to fly with you – but what time is that. We have to learn to discern AND listen.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Due to several misinterpretations and misperceptions over the years I have had to take a step back and not do anything due to damage and distrust. Many times I have tried to quit the music work, but it continues to find its way back to me and I have since promised to not give up no matter what happens because I understand that my mission is valid and it is necessary not just for my soul but for the world. Again, over 25 years in the industry on the mic, the stage, and the in the executive seat and still no one knows who I am, but I am determined to finish my task anyway. As many times that I have been knocked down, or spit out for not being likable enough for one desires, – still I rise, stronger than before. #GetLiveorGetLost
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My vision is to ultimately be a songwriter and a label executive helping other young ladies to understand and meet their own visions. I can’t stop peddling until i get here. Even after I still have to peddle, but it’ll be with a different kind of push that I look forward to. My work will always reward me in the end and I look forward to it. One thing I HATE that I continue to find are false prophets and leaders telling others how to approach and how to handle the their business and their god given talents where all of them have never even walked the path, they just stand alongside waiting for a passerby to help save them. Being that I have done the work, I have failed and I have mastered in some areas that no one can take from me and I am willing to pass along my findings if they can help another generation. I look forward to that moment.
