We recently connected with LoveTies LLC and have shared our conversation below.

Hi LoveTies, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?

Loveties has done so well since its inception. It would have been a beautiful thing to have started sooner, but we believe Loveties began precisely when it was supposed to.

Loveties is an award-winning married spoken-word poetry duo. A lot of our music and poetry are written around our life experiences before and after we met. LoveTies (Jamille and Dominicque Smith) met in 2012. After dating for a year, I (Jamille) had written what is now our signature poetry piece, SoulTies, and used it as part of a show to propose to her. I (Dominicque) wrote a piece in response to Soulties. This poem was put into an engagement video and became our signature poetry piece, leading to the creation of LoveTies, the Art of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. We were married on July 12, 2014.

In 2016 we officially became LoveTies LLC after performing on many stages together. We were blessed to share a stage with internationally known jazz artist Najee, performed at The House of Blues Cleveland and the Player Networking Event in Los Angeles for Superbowl Weekend. Additionally, LoveTies recently completed four performances in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with our A’CREW Family. Our work has been extensive and ongoing since the birth of LoveTies.

In September 2022, Loveties second project, 10, Ten, X, was released as a single. It just received its first international performance in Dubai. Their first debut album, Patiently Waiting, was released on October 15, 2021. It was produced, mixed, and mastered by Red Luxe Studios (Delvonte Tate) and David Munford, with featured artists Sam Goodi Bell, WoeJay Simpson, and DAVE. . Patiently Waiting is an album that sets poetry to music with a Soul/R&B feel. In releasing the Patiently Waiting album, LoveTies created a new lane for performance poetry to connect people with the art of writing on a different level. Both projects are available on all streaming platforms. LoveTies music can be purchased on the Loveties website.

LoveTies won Poets of the Year in 2019 at the Legend Awards and walked away with three awards for the Ohio Poetry Awards in the categories of Crowd Favorite, Best Poetry Group, and Best Feature of the Year in 2021. In 2022 they received the B-Elite ICON Award for contributing to the arts and recognition for their body of work as poets. LoveTies has been featured in Who’s Who in Black Cleveland, Scene Magazine, and Voyage Ohio Magazine.

LoveTies, during their journey, became members of a collective performance art group called A’C.R.E.W. (Artists Creatively Recognizing Everyone’s Worth) through its first production in 2019. A’CREW is a group of individual artists with their brands that often put on productions together. This family of artists has done shows both nationally and internationally. Dominicque is the business manager, and Jamille is one of two creative directors for A’C.R.E.W.

LoveTies starting sooner or later would have gone in a different direction. However, the timing was right because it took a lot of growth in love, marriage, artistry, and unity for us to be in the beautiful place we are in today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

LoveTies is a married spoken word poetry duo that performs creative expression of art. They are known for creating impactful poetry around love, relationship ministry, empowerment, and everyday life struggles. LoveTies can perform and write poetry about anything. This duo will travel all over the world to share their artistry. LoveTies mentors other poets and have been a guest for public speaking engagements. They recently tapped into the poetry to music side of their artistry, and it’s been well-received.

LoveTies provides performance art services that range from marriage proposals to international stages. In addition, LoveTies is that extra spice to your music projects and events through customized writing.

LoveTies is most proud of the success of embracing the art of poetry. This couple has grown in love, marriage, and artistry. Winning awards, recognition, opportunities to travel, and the overall love and support around them make this journey worth it. Their kids love it and embrace it. They love saying, “Mommy and Daddy are celebrities.”

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being artists is taking this journey together as a married couple. It’s a few married spoken-word poetry duos out here, so it sets them apart from others. To have an album and new single with poetry set to R&B Soul music is a huge accomplishment and speaks volumes about their growth.

LoveTies did not meet as poets. They dated for nine months before Jamille even knew Dominicque wrote poetry. She was his manager until he came home from work one day, and she shared a poem she had written. He was in total shock. He then forced her to perform at an event he was hosting. That changed everything, and they became both husband and wife and LoveTies.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

LoveTies feels that sharing and having an open mind when listening to artists’ and creatives’ projects is an effective way to support the arts. It does not cost a thing to do so. Artists must also stop looking at each other as competition and support each other. Collaborate with your fellow artists, play their music, and share their work.

Pushing each other’s limits and exploring unfound talents is why they love the collective family, A’CREW. Dominicque has tapped into singing and modeling, and Jamille has tapped more into his hip-hop lyrical skills since joining.

So many people focus on what is popular, so they close themselves off to what could be the next big thing. Expand your horizons and open yourself to explore all facets of artistry.
