Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Loveday Funck. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Loveday, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The journey of creating “Childhood Demons: Rituals and Meditations for Making Peace with Your Past” was a deeply transformative experience, intertwining the realms of creativity, healing, and self-discovery. As a fairy tale surrealist and poet, I embarked on a remarkable project that ventured into the ethereal world of Victorian demon girls set against the backdrop of mystical New Orleans settings.
Each of the twelve pieces of artwork held a mirror to the complex emotions that reside within us all, particularly those stemming from the wounds of childhood. Through the lens of these young demon girls, I explored themes that often go unaddressed: depression, anger, lost talents, and anxiety. These symbolic representations served as a bridge between the viewer’s personal experiences and the ethereal realm, offering a unique pathway for healing and understanding.
However, “Childhood Demons” was not only about visual storytelling. Intertwined with the artwork were carefully crafted meditations and rituals, each tailored to address the specific emotional landscapes portrayed in the art. This holistic approach allowed individuals to engage with their past traumas and confront their inner demons in a safe and guided manner. By delving into their depths and acknowledging their existence, the meditations, and rituals facilitated a transformative process of healing and growth.
The heart of this project was my own journey of self-discovery and healing. As I channeled my experiences of childhood traumas and abusive relationships into my creative process, I found solace in the act of creation. Each act of artwork and each word penned onto the pages were a testament to my ongoing quest for self-love and healing. Through the act of helping others confront their own pasts, I found a renewed sense of purpose and empowerment.
“Childhood Demons” became a labor of love that not only provided a means of artistic expression but also offered a hand to those struggling to navigate their own emotional landscapes. It was a reminder that art has the power to transcend its physical form and touch the very essence of our souls. In sharing my vulnerabilities and healing journey through this project, I aimed to inspire others to embark on their own paths of self-discovery and healing, reminding them that they too have the capacity to make peace with their past and embrace their inner light.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From my earliest days, I’ve been a seeker of creativity, aiming to bridge the gap between my inner spiritual realm and the external world, regardless of the apparent disparities. My journey into the realm of art was propelled into a serious pursuit following the extended period of illness and eventual passing of my husband, with whom I had shared two decades of life. Faced with this profound loss, I recognized the need for a transformative outlet, and my connection with creativity emerged not only as a source of solace but also as a therapeutic endeavor.
The essence of creativity resides within each individual—a wellspring of potential waiting to be tapped. This deep-seated belief underscores my creative journey, where I seek to guide others in channeling their own inherent creativity to unlock profound depths of self-expression and healing.
I pride myself on facilitating a transformative experience for my audience. Through my creative works, I provide a sanctuary for those seeking to confront their past, heal their wounds, and embrace their journey of self-love. The fusion of my personal healing journey, artistic talents, and my unwavering commitment to guiding others through their own transformative processes sets me apart in my field.
What I hold dearest to my heart is the impact my work has on individuals, as they navigate their unique paths of healing and self-discovery. My creative endeavors are a reflection of my own journey, my vulnerabilities, and my unwavering belief in the potential of art to heal. Through my work, I offer a safe haven where creativity merges with self-discovery, guiding you towards a path of embracing your past, making peace with it, and emerging stronger, transformed, and renewed.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In my early years navigating the art festival circuit, a particular incident vividly underscores my resilience. Imagine this scene: I’m earnestly setting up my booth the evening prior to the much-anticipated Friday festival launch. All preparations are in place until, unexpectedly, an intense gale emerges, triggering chaos. The rain falls heavily, hail pelts the ground, and it’s as if miniature whirlwinds are dancing around. Utter commotion.
Remarkably, this tempest proves relentless. Canopies are upended, artworks scatter in the wind, and even the main stage for performers succumbs to nature’s force. Amidst the turmoil, I scramble to salvage what I can of my artwork. However, as the storm’s intensity escalates, I’m compelled to retreat to my car for safety. Helplessly, I watch as art and debris scatter, transforming the once orderly grounds into a muddy battlefield.
When the storm eventually stops, I venture out to survey the aftermath. It’s akin to stepping into a post-apocalyptic art landscape – twisted canopies, disheveled art pieces, and my own booth bearing the brunt of the tempest. Yet, amid the wreckage, the festival’s resolute spirit shines through. Despite the setback, a makeshift stage is cobbled together by the following morning, and the event carries on, underscoring the unyielding determination that underscores creative endeavors.
Amid this scene, I return with what’s left of my art booth and making use of a borrowed canopy barely holding on thanks to steadfast clamps. The experience is undeniably distressing, yet it imparts a pivotal lesson: the capacity for unwavering resolve endures even amidst the most challenging circumstances.
As the festival regains its momentum, I stand beneath the improvised canopy, steadfast and resolute. Engaging with festival-goers, I present my artworks and engage in discourse. The storm we’ve collectively endured fosters a sense of camaraderie, forging connections amidst the chaos.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely, my creative journey is driven by a profound mission – to champion the significance of self-love. It’s a belief that’s deeply ingrained in my work, and it’s something I’m passionate about sharing with the world. I’m a firm believer that each one of us harbors incredible potential, the ability to transcend our circumstances, and the capacity to enact meaningful change on a global scale.
Central to my philosophy is the idea that through therapy and meditation, we have the potential to address our traumas and pain, leading to not only healing but also personal growth. It’s a transformative process that allows us to emerge from these experiences stronger and more empathetic than we were before.
My creative works are a reflection of my own journey, particularly through the lens of my childhood trauma and experiences in abusive relationships. It took me a considerable amount of time to realize that there was never anything inherently wrong with me. I was always deserving of love, value, and worth. This understanding was a revelation that sparked a journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and ultimately, self-love.
By weaving my personal narrative into my creations, I aim to inspire others to embark on their own journey toward self-love and acceptance. My mission is to demonstrate that, regardless of the trials we’ve faced, we have the potential to rise above and recognize our inherent value. Through my work, I strive to illuminate the transformative power of self-love – how it can heal, empower, and guide us toward living lives of purpose and compassion.
