We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Louise Lang Robinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Louise Lang, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
A long time ago I was sat on a train travelling home alone. We were pulled up in a station and out of the corner of my eye I saw something hit the table in front of me. I looked down and there was a small piece of lined paper folded up and on the front it read “to the lone girl on the train”. I think I paused for a minute but then I opened the note and inside it read “You’re beautiful, scars and all. And whatever you’ve been through or are going through, you’ll always be beautiful. Good luck in life, stranger! Keep fighting! xx”. I was immediately struck by emotions. I didn’t even catch a glimpse of who left the note but I think it will always be the kindest thing someone has done for me, because it was a stranger. That person saw my pain and despite not knowing me they took the time to make me feel not alone. I still have the note and I will treasure it forever.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Louise Lang Robinson, I grew up in a small town in West Yorkshire, England, where I still live and love! Since I was 14 and able to, I have always had multiple jobs and taken pride in my work ethic as I was motivated to make money so I could travel and see the world. I would maybe describe myself as a modern hippie! I am happiest when I’m outside amongst nature, I love to explore new places and photograph my adventures. I went to Thailand in 2014 with my mum where I had an amazing experience carrying out volunteer work at an elephant sanctuary, which only enhanced my passion for peace for all sentient beings. I have always been quiet and independent but I love spending time with my family and I always spare time when I can to raise awareness for charities I support and global issues. When I was 21 my granny gifted me with her box full of spare fabrics and craft materials leftover from her own hobbies, I’ve always been creative so naturally I started experimenting and creating all sorts of different things. I was still working in a local hairdressers at the time (my first ever job) and my clients showed interest in what I was doing so I decided to make a social media account for my art. Over the next few years on Instagram and in person people started reaching out to me to ask for custom orders, and so Louise Lang Designs began! The high school and college I went to specialized in business and enterprise so I had already studied this at a basic level, however to further my progress I have independently researched deeper into business and economics. I am self sufficient in that I am my own boss. I design, make, test, photograph and advertise myself. I am currently selling some of my products in a local beauty salon, and a local coffee shop I am working at as assistant manager. I have always loved being creative and I love working with individual clients to create something unique that is special for them. I also created a store online with Etsy so I can reach more people who are looking to easily buy environmentally friendly products with confidence.
I care deeply for the planet and the future of it, so it was inevitable that my business would be sustainable. I still get some materials donated to upcycle, and all the newly bought materials used in my creations are carefully selected, ensuring minimal environmental impact without compromising on quality and aesthetics. From recycled paper for greeting cards to organic fabrics for clothing and eco-friendly wax for candles, all of my products reflect a dedication to a sustainable future. I am proud of what I have achieved so far and wish to continue building my brand and business in a way that supports my beliefs and inspires other people.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal in life as well as my creative journey is to help create a better world! I have always cared for people and animals in a way that may seem excessive to some people but has always made sense to me! I live a vegan lifestyle and I believe this is the way forward to a realistic sustainable future and a healthier planet. I would love to connect with more like-minded people who uphold the same moral values and share similar visions.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I feel at peace when I am being creative and I know what I am doing is right.
