We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Louise Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Louise below.
Hi Louise, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
For as long as I can remember, I have had stories in me that feel like they need to be written. Before I was even old enough to write, my sweet mom wrote the words to go with pictures I had drawn and my first “book” was stapled together. I studied creative writing in college and it has always been my dream to be an author.
I was inspired to write my first novel by my love of historical fiction and suspense, I wrote the action scene near the end of the novel in my college creative writing class 15 years ago. I knew the story wasn’t finished, but life happened and it sat untouched for years until 2020 when I finally decided I wanted to finish the novel. But this time I was realizing that after the loss of my father, I wanted to have the story go much deeper than I originally planned. I wrote my first novel to not only entertain young adult readers, but to show them the delicate balance that exists between life and loss that often goes overlooked.
Writing these stories is a worthwhile endeavor to me because not only do I get to tell these stories that are begging me to be told, but I am also able to process my own grief of losing my father, while also creating a world that can entertain and hopefully resonate with readers.
Louise, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a mother of five rambunctious boys that keep me on my toes. We live in Idaho on three acres, where I try to convince my husband to add more animals to our mini zoo daily. I love to read and chances are you will find me with my nose in a book. I also love to be outdoors, spend time with my friends and family, watch movies, and create fictional worlds in my head.
As I said previously I have always had stories in my head that want to be told, one of my earliest stories was about a Christmas fox. Sometime in the future I would love to come back to that project, but for now I am working hard on finishing up the third book in my young adult romantic suspense trilogy.
I received a bachelor’s degree with a focus in creative writing and my lifelong dream is to write books that resonate with readers. My first published book was a children’s book, Grandpa’s Boots, where a little girl Klair joins her grandpa for a day of work on his cattle ranch. It is a loving tale about the wonderful lessons we can learn from our family.
In 2023 my first YA romantic suspense novel, Haunted by You, released. I have since written books two and three in the trilogy. My Haunted Vow, book two released in 2024 and book three, Forever Haunted, will release in October 2025.
After reading the Haunted by You Series, I hope that readers will be inspired to look at life differently, appreciate the emotional connections we have with one another, and understand that sometimes through tragedy we create our deepest and longest-lasting relationships.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an author is when readers send me a message letting me know they enjoyed one of my books. I love when I get messages as they read, panicking during the suspenseful parts or telling me that one of the character’s or a line in the novel resonated with them.
Imposter syndrome is an ugly monster that creeps up when you least expect it. I know my novels wont be for everyone, and there will be some who hate them. But knowing that at least one person found value and entertainment in my stories makes all the endless hours of writing, revising, editing some more, and having mini breakdowns as deadlines loom worth it.
I hope that my readers will be inspired to look at life differently, appreciate the emotional connections we have with one another, enjoy the little moments in life, and remember that if we look for the good in the world, we will always find it.
