Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Louise Canton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Louise, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a customer success story with us?
I have spent a lot of time photographing professional models and actors which perhaps makes a subject not in the industry or without experience feel uneasy about having their portrait taken. I often hear that a client doesn’t like to have their picture taken or to be in front of the camera and doesn’t know what to do or how to behave. When an especially nervous client noted this to me I did my best to instruct her and make her feel at ease. By the end of the session she told me how much she enjoyed the shoot and when she saw the pictures she cried with happiness.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I went to Art School in the UK where I specialized in Fine Art and Photography learning with film. Since I left university I went on to assist Fashion photographers both in England and then moved to Sydney, Australia to assist and work on shoots for top fashion publications such as Elle, Grazia and Rush. When I moved to the U.S I started getting a lot of requests for portraiture/editorial shoots for women, usually to celebrate milestone birthdays or sometimes creative shoots inspired by an art piece they’d seen or another in the style of their favorite artist as well as fashion themed shoots or headshots so I naturally evolved to women’s portraiture instead.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My career pivoted when women (typically) saw me on Facebook or Instagram and reached out to me asking for a personal shoot. Now, rather than working for agencies with fashion models, I prefer to work with individual clients that are usually booking me for personal shoots.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The creative turns and the way a shoot can develop, I really enjoy editing the pictures afterwards but of course, most rewarding is hearing back from the client after they’ve seen their pictures.
