Today we’d like to introduce you to Louise Butera
Hi Louise, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I was drawn to the world of art. Whether doodling, painting, or shaping ceramics at age 10, creativity was always my outlet. In high school, while others opted for minimal classes, I packed my schedule with art electives, eventually pursuing Advertising Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
My career path shifted on the first day at FIT when a speaker introduced me to the world of package design. Until that moment, I hadn’t considered how much creativity went into something as simple as a package. That day, I decided I wanted to be a Package Designer.
My first role out of college was at Colgate-Palmolive, where I spent eight years designing packages, displays, and sales kits. When my position was outsourced, I found myself unsure of how to pivot. I transitioned into print production, managing projects and approving designs, but my path took another turn during the 2008 economic crash.
Finding stability during the 2008 economic crash was a challenge, so I turned to contract work to make ends meet. Eventually, I returned to Colgate, this time as an onsite vendor in their multicultural department, managing in-store displays and festivals. While I wasn’t designing anymore, I gained valuable experience in process management.
My career then led me to L’Oréal, where I worked in operations, managing the approval of global artwork. From there, I became an account director at an agency, overseeing PepsiCo Beverages US through its rebrand in 2023. These roles taught me to handle large-scale projects and navigate high-pressure environments.
Later, I shifted to sales at another agency, where I specifically requested to work with mid-tier and emerging brands. That’s where I truly found my passion. Early-stage founders are driven, fearless, and incredibly inspiring. I wanted to support their vision, leveraging everything I’d learned throughout my career to guide and empower them.
This desire to do more led to the creation of Join The Tryb. It’s my way of giving back—helping founders navigate challenges and build something extraordinary.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is rarely a smooth road, and my journey has been shaped by some of the most challenging events in recent history. September 11, 2001, remains one of the saddest days in U.S. history, changing the course of global dynamics. The economic crash in 2008 created uncertainty across industries. The COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 further tested our ability to adapt, and the rise of social media revolutionized how we connect and do business.
Each of these moments had a profound impact—personally, socially, and professionally. They taught me the importance of resilience and the need to adapt and pivot quickly in an ever-changing world.
My career has been far from smooth, but every challenge has been a lesson. I’ve learned to stay connected, stay curious, and embrace change as an opportunity to grow. These experiences have shaped who I am today.
