We recently connected with Louisa Chan and have shared our conversation below.
Louisa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Mental health has been an important theme on my page. I often prioritize others before myself, which led me multiple times close to burnt out. Over time, I learned in order for us to be the best version of ourselves, we need to take care of ourselves first. Baking has been my form of stress relief, and I hope to promote a calm and relaxing feeling to others through my videos.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up, I was the type to go with the flow and take things day by day. It wasn’t until college that I took some culinary classes and discovered my interest in baking. Science and math were never my strongest suits, but something about adding ingredients together in the right ratio, putting them in the oven and something delicious comes out was interesting to me. When I went home for breaks, I would look up new recipes to try, take photos and post them on social media.
Fast forward to 2020, I discovered the world of food photography and I realized many people make a living from it. I wanted to give it a try, so I started my account, Lou Be Baking. I researched how to improve my photography, videography and baking skills and since then have connected with many other wonderful creators on social media.
Recently, I decided to rebrand my page. I’ve outgrown my previous name and wanted people to know me as the real me and what I love to do. It would be a dream to do this full time one day.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I used to believe everything I worked on had to be perfectly done. I’d stress over every little detail until I’m satisfied. Eventually, I realized nothing will ever be perfect. I sometimes step away from a task and come back to it with a refreshed mind. I get a better outcome without feeling stressed.

How did you build your audience on social media?
The best way to build an audience is to be genuinely yourself. In the food photography and baking world, there are so many talented creators with their own unique styles. Focus on developing relationships, engaging with others and learning from the community. People are drawn towards authenticity and that’s what helps grow a loyal audience.
