We were lucky to catch up with Louis P. Author recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Louis P., thanks for joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
When I first decided to become an independent artist full-time, it was never an expectation to become “rich and famous” over night (if ever). My interest towards the music industry came with the knowledge of it’s new found independence. No longer having to audition for big producers like P. Diddy, or even having to deal with collaborating with other local artists, who may not share my vision 100%, just for the hopes of being “discovered”. With new distribution companies like CD Baby, Distrokid and more, It was basically a “no brainer”. I simply use the ability to produce, write and record, to release some of the most timeless music this generation has ever heard. Of course, nothing in life is that simple, and there are a few unexpected issues I’ve come across in 2024.
It was my assumption that I deal with my distributor of choice, provide them with countless bangers to be delivered to ALL streaming platforms. From that I expected to gain a core fan base, and as the years go by…I appreciate and watch them grow. Needless to say, the “middlemen” (distributor ” has another plan. Here’s an example….if a fan likes my music and puts it on repeat, they will assume it’s “fake streams” and refuse to pay me the money earned. True, they provide me with excruciating details, but will still refuse to pay what they owe and it’s nothing I can do about it or no one to talk to. Leaving me feeling helpless and unappreciated regardless of my efforts. Regardless of the fact that I would never degrade my own progress using fake streams, they refuse to look into it further and choose to pocket the money. Since March of this year (2024) I haven’t been receiving full compensation or even close to what my excruciating details display, and they stopped communicating with me to resolve the issue.
I love what I do, not because of the attention but because it’s who I am. Since a child it’s who I’ve always been. These issues caused me to retract the 12 albums a year every 2 years, as well as remove some of my biggest songs like “Momma Imma Criminal”, “Happy Birthday” and even some full albums like “Love Is…Us”. Only because I feel like once they started generating real money, the distributor called “fraud” in order to get away with pocketing the proceeds, even tho it took me years to build this fanbase and keep them onboard. I went through a ton of negative emotions but overall I’ve decided to change gears.

My solution is simple, I become many instead of one. I move around and unite with self. I become change itself. Louis P. Author will remain… complete,as is. From here on out, I’ll be more. Multiple Artists from one temple. In 2025 I expand with the knowledge gained, and fight back with everything I have.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
To those who’re unfamiliar with me, all I can say is, “listen to the music”. You’ll find all you need to know between the lines. I’m an artist, a spiritual entity, a loving and devoted person. My personal life is full of good deeds and full independence. To me that’s all that matters at this point in life. Remaining free and motivated to find new adventures. I’m not the best at “tooting my own horn” so I’ll leave it there. No different than any other person, we all have layers.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I’m sure they’re a few resources I could benefit from knowing about. Unfortunately I’m uninformed. Everything i do comes from me and what I researched. I don’t regret the process at all. I knew what I was meant to know then, and I’m still learning things to better myself in the future. I’m sure that even in the future, even after life itself, they’ll be thing I “wish” I knew (smh I guess), but I can’t waste time being hard on myself. All I can do is be me, here and now. Open to learn so much more.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
We can at least give $1 per streams and payout what you’re supposed to instead of scamming artists. Support us by paying us for our time and service…..for our dedication to your interest.
