We recently connected with Lostboybk and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lostboybk, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I just finished up working on a new single called Cycles. I think it really explores a new sound that i’ve been engineering in my head. The song is about relationships and how you can get trapped in them.

Lostboybk, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I”m lostboybk, a rapper from Brooklyn, NY. My entire musical persona is about allowing my fans to get to know the realest parts of me that I’m willing to share in hopes that they can relate and learn from my mistakes. The name lostboy is meant to implicate the simplicity and duality of my life. Sometimes the answer to your problems is so obvious, yet impossible to attain. For example, I had a long battle with addiction and to that the answer is very simple, just quit. Yet, countless people around the world suffer from the disease and find such a simple step to be so Impossible. I think the name is actually ver polarizing, some people tell me that it’s not complex or eye grabbing, others love it. That’s why I love it. Any good piece of art is polarizing – at least at first. I try to take that approach to my music once it’s shipped. If people are opinionated, you’re in the right place. So, if you listen to my music, I hope you find a piece you can relate to, or one that evokes some sort of thought.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Contrary to most, I think now is actually the best time for the indie artist. I think that people are a lot more willing than they used to be to listen to a small-timer. There are also tons of artists who are blowing up and not signing to record labels because of things like TooLost and Distrokid. It’s a bit more of a rat race now, because everyone sees the opportunity. But, if you put the work in, I think you can really shine more without signing to a label and having your music collect dust while they push someone else.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Just because you like your music doesn’t mean everyone else will. I had to learn that your ears are incredibly biased to stuff you create yourself because of your ego. I think i’ve now began to set the bar incredibly high for the music and content I release because of it. I think we’ve all experienced someone’s music and or content that just feels underdeveloped or as if they themselves can’t see that it’s not very good. So unlearning my ego, and learning quality control was the lesson.
