We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful LoSmoothe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with LoSmoothe below.
Hi LoSmoothe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
When I first started my music journey I was is a rap group. Most hooks I would write would be a singing hook, I often gravitated towards singing, it was something about singing that I connected with more than rapping. I decided write a full r&b song for just my inner circle to hear. I found myself writing more and more r&b music and by the time I ventured into being a solo artist I already had a full album ready to record. I titled this album (Donyell) which is my first name I felt like I evolved into the artist I was supposed to be. This album I put out in 2018 I decided to take it down due to my sound evolving more. I often get a lot of people asking for these old songs so I may revisit a few fan favorites to bring them to my current sound . This album is when I found my identity as an artist.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I always loved music growing up. I was that annoying kid at school beating on the table making beats while the homies freestyled. I was shy, I never wanted to freestyle amongst others, I just liked making the beats and loved the energy of people enjoying it. Once I did start freestyling they could never shut me up lol. I took music seriously in 2008 where a met a homie at Home Depot where I was working and we formed a rap group. We did a lot of shows where we paid to perform, we just wanted to be heard. After landing a independent deal we decided to just do our own thing as life took its course. It’s all love, we support each other in everything we do
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
What’s most rewarding thing for me as an artist is viewer and listener response. As an artist we work hard to create and for people to acknowledge your hard work is encouraging to keep you pressing forward especially when you have moments when you want to give up.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I know most didn’t take me serious when I started singing especially when I was a rapper for most of my journey. I’ve since received plaque via Spotify with over 1 million streams on one of my albums and my music is featured all over the world.. I’ve worked with some of the hottest artist in the game and currently working on my 4th project set to release real soon!
