We were lucky to catch up with Los Tripsters recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Los thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
This most recent album that we dropped January 21st night of the New Moon is a meaningful one for us. We had an intuition to take a step back from our usual style of jamming that we had grown very comfortable with and to hone in on our individual creativity in order to have new ideas to present. It was time to invite a new chapter of creativity into our process of writing songs. This time around each Tripster showed a song we individually wrote and then we would focus on the ones we were feeling most. This led to introducing new styles of sound that went beyond the latin psychedelic genre we felt boxed into. The new songs are short n straight to the chase with more structure in the sound.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We’re a band of brothers that love to create music filled with heavy emotion. We go by Los Tripsters and we started our journey playing live in Tijuana at venues such as Cine Tonala, Via Corporativo, Cerveceria Insurgentes and others. Our music is memorable for its highly passionate guitar, emotional piano, and exciting rhythm section which form the melodic voices for a purely instrumental soundscape.
We specialize in instrumental music, but recently began expanding our style by adding vocals to some special songs. As a band we love to explore a wide spectrum of genres ranging from psychedelic to latin, alternative, punk, easy-listening as well as many others. We miss the classic sound of vintage rock from the 60s and 70s like The Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Santana and many other beautiful artists who inspire us. We hope that listeners hear us and are reminded of those days of retro bands with amazing music.
We are real proud of our new album “Hit it Sideways” and want potential listeners to follow us on IG @los.tripsters to stay tuned and see us at our upcoming live shows. I like to think of our live performances as an in the moment offering to the people, nature and invisible spirits around us. We visualize our sound as creating a magical atmosphere around us that we share with everyone present at that moment. On our path we have been fortunate enough to gain experience in San Diego and LA at venues such as The Che Cafe UCSD, The Whisky a Go Go, and others.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal of Los Tripsters is to steadily grow in live experience and in number of followers for our music. I believe in order for nature & fate to co-create alongside us what we want to manifest that we must do our part by being disciplined and consistent towards taking actions that are relevant to our goal. Nothing is given for free, we must also give in order to co-create along with the forces that are beyond us.
In a fast paced work-oriented lifestyle such as ours it is crucial to remind ourselves the reason why we are doing what we are doing every now and then. Otherwise it can lead to a sensation of overwhelming restlessness. This intention and purpose behind our actions provides direction for all efforts to be guided to the goal in mind.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’ve really enjoyed watching the discography of the band grow and evolve. A bigger discography means more songs to play at live shows, which enables us now to be able to play longer sets and really get into a good groove for the audience. Playing live shows is definitely one of the most rewarding aspects of being in a band. It is great to have the presence of people watching you play, it provides a bit of pressure to really play sharp and to enter your music zone regardless of the environment. Then there is the off the stage memories of shenanigans that are also just as valuable haha.
The internal growth that comes with being an artist is extraordinary. Habits need to be developed to keep balance in our routine as a musician. Forming these habits of discipline come easily to some and are more chaotic for others. Attitude is everything when it comes to keeping your spirits uplifted, since the path of an artists usually consists of rapid shifts between accomplishment and struggle. The emotional journey, mental clarity, amazing memories that are made along the path. Trusting in the process, feeling comfortable in your own skin. These are all rewarding to me.
