Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lorry Jamison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lorry, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I would like to talk about my upcoming webcomic Blush, a queer coming-of-age horror romance comic, to be released on Wednesday, March 27th through Kraven Comics. This was a very special project for me to complete, both professionally and personally, and I would love to talk about it!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Lorry Jamison (they/them), a non-binary cartoonist and illustrator based in St. Louis, MO. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2019, and since then I have been focusing on my creative practice. Along the way, I have collaborated with some very exciting illustration clients such as Betty’s Books, The Novel Neighbor, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I have also published short comics in a couple of anthologies, and released my official comic debut at the end of this past year with Kraven Comics! I now continue to make more comics with Kraven, as well as some top secret illustrations and comic coming out later on this year.
I create whimsical, vivid, LGBT+ focused artwork, with a focus on visual storytelling through comics and poster design. I am always open to new collaborations and helping others to tell their stories, and I cannot wait for my newest comic to debut at the end of March!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Creating the representation that I wanted to see in art when I was younger. I needed to see characters figure out their identities and finding reassurance in that process. It’s an honor to get to create these characters from scratch and develop a vivid world for them to inhabit across comic pages. With Blush (available digitally on Comix. One, Zinio, and Kraven Comics starting 3/27), I wanted to center a queer love story amidst vampires taking over a small town. I get to take my favorite genre (horror) and enhance it with some authentic, meaningful representation. It’s very sweet and very horrifying at times. It’s a very fun mixture of Twilight and Love, Simon. I cannot wait for readers to see it for themselves!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One reward is to get to release a new project and let go of your overthinking! I can be a perfectionist, and it really helps to set a date to release a project and stop making too many tiny edits. You learn so much more from starting and finishing something instead of half-working on something and never making progress with it. My latest comic, Blush, is part of a larger set of comics set in a spooky, queer, horror anthology. Each story is self-contained, and it will be releasing every three months, about once a quarter. Readers should keep their eyes peeled for small details that could come back up throughout these stories. They are definitely adding up to something so, so exciting!
