We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lorrie Sanon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lorrie, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first developed an affinity for design at the age of 14. i had always been a very detail oriented child, noticing and studying colors, textures, and the design of my surroundings. When doing my family chores around the house, for instance, I would sweep the carpet in the same direction so it would be the same color. and tone. I would also move furniture around to give the space a fresh look and feel. I started exploring different career paths in design and immediately gravitated to Interior Design/Decorating. While living in NY; I obtained a job with Gracious Homes on the Upper East Side and my responsibilities included styling vignettes, assisting the window display designer on ideas/concepts and worked with High end designers and celebrity clients. My responsibilities at Gracious Homes allowed me to really hone in my passion for design and see a career path I must follow. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit and knew that one day I would own my own company. Upon my moving back to Miami that dream came true and I launched Indigo Hues Designs! Our company offers Event Floral Styling, Yacht Floral and Plant Styling and Service to Luxury Hotels
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I started Indigo Hues Designs upon my return to Miami from New York in 2013. I was raised in Miami and left in 1998 to explore career opportunities; first, in Los Angeles and then in New York City in 2005. During my time in New York, I worked as a Design Consultant for several interior decorating companies, including Janovic (Berkshire Hathaway and Gracious Homes; where I spent 6 years staging homes for clients on both Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue (many of whom are well-known celebrities and business leaders). Upon my return to Miami, I studied Floral Design at Miami Schoo of Flower Design led by the well known Michael Gaffney. it was then I experienced the many facets of my floral career beginning to intertwine; realizing how integral the role of floral design was, and is, in highlighting the beauty and geometric lines of bespoke interiors. I then combined my passions for beautifying interiors and love of the world of design experience to create my company Indigo Hues Designs. We pride ourselves on our clients overall experience from beginning to completion. Our approach and mission is to truly guide our clients to bring their vision to life. The company’s strong foundation in Interior decorating is a value that separates us apart from most florists and allows our design product to be unique and memorable. Now, I have a team of experienced designers and installers, who are committed to that same vision of offering our clientele high-quality creative designs and impeccable installations!
Indigo Hues offers floral styling services to an exclusive and diverse group of clients throughout South Florida. Our clients include Superyachts, Luxury Hotels/Concierges, Private Residences, Event Promoters, and Corporate clients. Indigo Hues understands that every brand, company, and individual is unique; and we customize our solutions to their needs. My latest venture has been the creation of an Online Floral School where we share our creative touch with eager new stylists through our virtual platform and on board floral styling workshops and tabletop design classes. I’m excited to continue expanding my company’s design services and professional portfolio.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first started my company and focused on the Yachting industry I immediately realized that if I were to succeed I would need to be able to provide a highly customized product in a very short period of time. Yacht Charters can happen on a moments notice and their demand for a high end quality product is imperative. My skillsets developed working in the fast paced New York City Design Industry prepared me well for this challenge. Indigo Hues Designs has developed a reputation for being the go to Floral Stylist for the Yacht Industry in South FL. We pride ourselves on meeting our clients deadlines with a high quality product.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing about being creative is I am doing what I love and making a living doing it. I love entering a space and seeing how I can elevate it for my clients.
