Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lorraine Tallman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lorraine , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Everything that I have created is inspired by my daughter, Amanda Hope, who lost her battle with cancer. It is her dreams and experiences that built the foundation of Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels. When I am gone, I hope Amanda’s legacy will live on through every warrior family that we are able to help. I hope that any child going treatment can find some dignity and comfort in our adaptive apparel and that one day our financial aid, major distraction events, and counseling services could be available to families nationwide.
Lorraine , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My daughter, Amanda Hope, battled cancer twice and lost. Her light and kind heart is what inspired everything that I have built with my pediatric cancer nonprofit, Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels. While going through treatment, her heart ached for the children and families around us, and as young as she was, she saw the gaps in care. One thing Amanda dreamt of was an adaptive. apparel that would keep children from having to remove their clothing during their chemotherapy. After she passed, I carried out her dream with the creation of Comfycozys for Chemo. Now, any child with a central port can apply online, and Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels will send them a package complete with a mindfulness kit and a Comfycozy to aid them in their treatment.
AHRA helps support Arizona families impacted by childhood cancer and other life-threatening illnesses through Comfort and Care counseling, Comfycozy’s for Chemo adaptive apparel, Financial Assistance, and Major Distraction events.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think within the nonprofit space all you can be is authentic. If you stay true to who you are and the products or services that you are selling, people will see that, and the reputation will follow. Most of the families that we serve come to us through the testimony or referrals of other warrior families.
At Amanda Hope, every member of our team truly believes in what they do and gives everything they have to help support our warriors. Their dedication to creating events that give these families moments of joy, or the time and energy that goes into finding an individualized counseling plan for each family is something so noticible to any family that works with us.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The stress of losing my daughter led to the passing of my husband and the cofounder of Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels, Marty Tallman. During my daughters treatment, Marty spent all of his time caring for us, and in that time, he neglected his own care, which led to him developing stomach ulcers that would turn into cancer. I could have let the pain of losing two of the most important people in my life overtake me, but instead, I let Amanda and Martys death mean something.
Amanda’s passing led to my drive for helping give dignity and comfort to families experiencing childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Marty’s passing led to my drive for helping ensure that every person within that family would have a support system and ways to prioritize their mental health. They are the foundation of each program within Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels.
