We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lornalitz Baez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lornalitz, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Hi! – Thank you for including my story in your piece. It’s hard to pinpoint one project I’ve worked on which was most meaningful because as a Model representing the curvier and diverse community, I feel my entire journey has given meaningful inspiration. Most recently, I have branched into hosting and I love having my voice heard a little louder. I am a TV host for LATV, an American bilingual broadcast television network. I host “Shades of Beauty”, a show which focuses on framing the audience’s perception of beauty to better understand its place in our culture. We promise to offer lots of inspiration and practical tips to make you feel like your best self.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well, I am a Model, Tv host, Actor, an Advocate and a Mother. It’s been quite the journey pursuing a modeling career at a young age. I began modeling in New York City, then eventually started receiving opportunities to travel overseas for modeling work. I am immensely honored to have had the opportunity to work with Top brands such as Torrid, Fabletics, Savage Fenty, Just Fab, Nordstrom, Ashley Stewart, Target, Kmart, NYDJ, Macys, just to name a few. I also have walked the runways of New York Fashion week. I was the muse for Project Runway season 14 winner and named the first curvy Latina to close for Project Runway NYFW. I moved to Los Angeles, where I currently reside, to continue modeling alongside working on television. I have Acted on national commercials like Target and Sprite. Now, I am Hosting on a television network. The road has not been easy, It was definitely bumpy with ups and downs, but it has been, oh so rewarding!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Prior to 2016, I was not in any way a social media enthusiast. In fact, to be completely transparent, I despised social media because I was never the type of person to share what I am doing with others. I like to live in the moment, experience, take it in and cherish those memories in my personal photo collection. I would describe myself as an introvert/extrovert. Family and close friends will describe me as “too modest”. In fact, my close friends who have seen my career grow, used to get upset with me for not being more vocal about my career. It wasn’t until I completed season two of a reality show I was on called “Curvy Girls” airing on Amazon Prime, when my Agent and Publicist said it was very important to build my social media presence. I knew it was vital for my brand, so I began to build my audience by showcasing my talents, my interest and my life to everyone willing to view. I appreciate having the platform to not only show my work, but to advocate for diversity, promoting the need for more mixed culture, gender, age and size inclusivity within the Entertainment/Fashion industry. Advice I can give to those starting to build their social media is to find what resonates with you most and run with that. It should feel easy because it is truly something you love to share. Do not stress over the likes or the engagement, all of that will come in time. Focus on the message you want to put out and Enjoy yourself through the process.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
If this question was asked to me when I was 17 yrs old I would have responded with “I want to live out my dreams and make my parents proud”. Now, I get asked this question after many accomplishments and my response is “I still have so much more I want to do. In fact, I have added more dreams to my list and I want to be an Inspiration to my children and other Dreamers”.
