Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lori Washko. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lori thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
In 2018, I took a solo trip to a yoga and wellness retreat in the Riviera Maya. My family was going through a challenging time, and I desperately needed a space to reset and recharge. When I first shared my plans to travel alone, I was met with a mixture of encouragement from some and fearful skepticism (and honestly, some judgment) from others.
This trip was not just about “me” time or taking a girls’ trip — It was about taking the time I needed to nurture myself so I could show up as a better version of me. A better wife, mom, and support to those around me. I was under so much stress that I had stopped doing the things that nurtured my soul and was neglecting my self-care. It was time to step out of my comfort zone and invest in my own well-being.
The retreat organizer had thought of everything—from nourishing meals to unforgettable cultural excursions and intimate group discussions. It was an experience that made me feel like a kid on an adventure again. I left that retreat feeling deeply inspired, so much so that I decided to become a yoga instructor and created classes and retreats for other women to experience the same transformation. I designed my own format, blending yoga with worship music, devotionals, and scripture to create a unique and holistic experience.
In January 2020, I took a leap and launched my first retreat in Tulum, Mexico. The retreat organizer from my Riviera Maya retreat had opened her own boutique hotel, so I chose that as my venue because I trusted her, and she was familiar with the area. I selected our excursions, figured out a budget and started marketing the trip on social media and through word of mouth. The trip was a hit, and it sparked a desire in me to continue offering these transformative experiences. So, I began planning my next retreat in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Lori, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In addition to becoming a Christian yoga instructor in 2019, I recently completed my certification as a Functional Nutrition Coach in 2024.
My personal health journey has played a huge role in shaping my business. After a recurrence of breast cancer in April 2023, I began researching holistic treatments, and I was astounded by how much there is to learn about improving overall health in natural, accessible ways. Simple changes, like drinking filtered water, avoiding seed oils, and eating organic produce can make a huge difference. I realized that many people aren’t aware of these basic health practices, and I wanted to share that knowledge.
I also completed additional training on the GI-Map test, which analyzes the microbiome—the foundation of our digestive, immune, and even mental health. This test can uncover hidden imbalances like bacterial overgrowth or infections, and it’s an excellent starting point for anyone serious about improving their health.
Beyond the physical, I believe that healing must also address our mindset and spiritual well-being. We are not just bodies—we are hearts, minds, and souls that are all interconnected. I’ve seen that you cannot be truly healthy in body if your spirit is out of balance. I’m currently in the process of creating a workbook and course to guide others in thier mindset as they make the journey to lasting, sustainable changes in their lives. My passion is to help women step into their full potential.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
For me, it was learning to let go of people-pleasing and the fear of judgment. Vulnerability is necessary when you’re putting yourself out there, especially when it comes to standing firm in your faith. I used to worry too much about what others thought of me, and at times, it held me back. However, I have learned that when you operate from a place of genuine authenticity, doors open and the right people show up. It has been a journey, and I’m still working on this. I am definitely an over thinker, but the plus side to this is that my retreats are carefully, lovingly planned down to the last detail!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Without a doubt, experiencing a recurrence of breast cancer has taught me many lessons. Navigating that experience has reinforced the importance of holding onto my joy and faith, despite fear and uncertainty. Every day I practice affirmations and read scripture about my identity and health; my faith has been my anchor through it all.
I’ve also learned to be my own advocate for my healthcare. We often operate within a “sick-care” model that focuses only on treating symptoms, rather than addressing the root cause of illness. Traditional medicine has its place, but I believe that education and knowledge are crucial when facing health challenges. I’m grateful for the ability to make informed decisions, and I’ve built a team of doctors, healers, and support that aligns with my values. Empowering myself has been transformative and continues to be a part of my journey.
