Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lori Frison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lori, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Every weekday morning for 17 years, I got up, put my lipstick on, and drove to work at the County Human Services Department. I felt secure in my position where I knew the system inside and out. I had dear friends to laugh with and a great paycheck. I drove all over the county seeing people in their homes, at schools and even in parks. I loved it. The freedom suited me well.
But a whisper nudged me to open my own business. I daydreamed about the possibilities for connecting people to greater health…maybe a wellness center…maybe a yoga studio…maybe I could teach meditation or take people on hiking expeditions! It wasn’t clear how I would serve others. I only knew I was called to do more. I tucked these ideas away and continued heading off to my stable job day after day.
The whispers started to scream at me and I couldn’t ignore my passions any longer. I set my intention to set out on my own as a private practitioner. Opportunities began to present themselves. Emails came with just the right information. I bumped into an old professor who offered his assistance. I connected with other private practitioners and found a small office space for the incredibly low fee of $10 per session.
I stepped into brand new territory. I spent every free minute reading, learning, growing. The doubts were like popcorn in my brain with scary thoughts of no money, no clients, and the shame of failing. It took unwavering faith and six long months before I could support myself my private practice income.

Lori, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My parents divorced when I was three years old. This one event shaped the trajectory of my life. The loss of a stable home and the loving care of both parents left me with unmet needs as a child. Many of us know the pain of broken homes and relational traumas. I arrived at 18 missing the skills I needed for adulthood.
But I was driven to heal and I loved to learn. I have always had a burning passion for personal development and as a result I have completed training in, and worked in, several alternative healing modalities such as Master level Reiki practitioner, Registered Yoga Teacher, Mindfulness Meditation Instructor, as well as completing a year-long apprenticeship in Shamanic Healing Practices.
My life experiences, my education, and my own healing journey all support the services I offer today. I bring a depth of knowledge in the area of relationship intelligence and a solid history of work experience from my 23 years as a licensed mental health professional. My work includes both the body and the mind. The experience I have as a change agent and my ability to assist others with cultivating a connection to the spiritual center within, makes working with me a great choice for many.
I created the Redefining Love program to guide women past recurring relationship struggles and challenges to begin creating conscious loving relationships. The program transforms the way a person thinks about themselves and how they relate. They become clear on how to have healthy satisfying relationships. They learn to prioritize themselves in relationships and life.
I believe love is why we’re here on earth. Relationships are our biggest joy and our greatest challenge. Our past doesn’t dictate our future. Learning to have conscious relationships is something that frees us from past dysfunction and gives us the security we need to blossom into our highest potential.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
As a solopreneur, I had to learn how to follow my own wisdom, be visible and show up as my authentic self. This was a hard won lesson for me. I knew how to coach people but I didn’t know a ton about running a business. There was so much to learn from hosting events to social media and marketing. It was a steep hill to climb. I found myself looking outside to “experts” for advice and learning. I spent a lot of money on learning programs and a lot of time doing what other people told me would work before I realized, there is value in what others are sharing but in the end I have to decide what fits for me.
This was a risk. After all, what did I know about business? Once I took what others were doing and saying as information to assist me and not the “right” way, my business turned a corner. It became a genuine reflection of me and my offer to others became clear.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
There are many skills and capacities that help leaders grow their businesses but the one that underlies all of them is awareness. Without the ability to see what is unfolding, a person isn’t able to respond effectively. Awareness of how we think and feel is the first step to empowerment. Developing self awareness and the flexibility that comes with it is a key factor to any venture.
