Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lori Blad. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lori, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful, you have to let go of your ego and focus on your clients. Focus on your clients needs and wants, follow through, support them, support your partners in business, and success is inevitable. Be yourself, have fun, and be consistent. In my industry there are some really big egos, at the end of the day, none of our business is about us as realtors or loan officers, it’s all about helping people get what they want.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I fell in love with real estate in college. Discovering Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and Robert Kiyosaki opened up a new world for me. Seeing how to create wealth with real estate was something that made sense and was exciting. I didn’t decide to get my real estate license until 2018 but I’ve studied the markets and invested personally since graduating college. I had twin girls and moved with my family to Abu Dhabi in 2008 and came back in 2012. I grew up in Denton and have lived in Lewisville, Flower Mound, Northlake, and Argyle with my own family. I love this area, it’s a fantastic place to raise a family. My girls will graduate high school this year and will continue on to college. I have been a founding member in a brand-new brokerage, Absolute Realty and I have earned my mortgage lender’s license, as well, adding NXT Mortgage to my repertoire. I absolutely love helping people build wealth with real estate. I love helping families and work very differently than most realtors. I don’t consider myself in sales, I’m an advisor, consultant, and helper. I have some guarantees and promises that I share with potential clients that are unique and help them understand my values. Being trustworthy, honest, and reliable are essential components to my business and the way I work. My goal is always to make my clients extremely happy.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I was in my late 30s when I got my real estate license. When I first had my license, I spent a couple of years looking for a place/brokerage to call home that felt like a good fit. At first, I thought I would do commercial real estate. I spent my first year working in commercial real estate and did not enjoy it or find success. From there, I started to jump brokers and teams. I was told to memorize scripts and to do things a certain way that did not work for me and did not feel genuine. After a couple of years, I started to work with a mentor who helped me start to trust and believe in myself, my own style, and leave the scripts behind. That’s when it started to come together for me, and my business started to take off. In retrospect, I wish I had trusted myself more. In real estate, there is a lot of noise and more coaches and guru’s than you can imagine. Mentors and coaches have their place, it’s important to find someone that you connect with and be genuine in your interactions and work. Now, with my real estate license and my mortgage license, I have more knowledge and more ways to help everyone I talk to and anyone who comes to me for advice.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I am not in sales. I don’t memorize scripts. I am honest, open, and genuinely there to help my clients. I hold open houses, conduct showings, post on social media, all as my authentic self. When you step into one of my open houses, you aren’t asked to sign in, you aren’t followed through the house, and I’m not there to tell you where the kitchen, backyard, or anything else obvious is or to make sure you take a flyer or my card. I believe most people are intelligent human beings and have good questions, I can answer them most of the time. I don’t chase clients, I just work differently and clients who appreciate that find me. The funny thing is, people who appreciate those characteristics often possess them, as well.
