Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lorenzo Shelton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lorenzo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I started my creative journey super late. At the time, I was deep into a more traditional career path, working a job that paid the bills but didn’t ignite that creative spark in me. Life was stable, but there was always that feeling that I was missing out on something more fulfilling. The idea of creating, whether it was through vlogging, taking pictures , or any other form of content, had always been in the back of my mind, but I hesitated, thinking it was impractical or that I didn’t have the right skills or even the time to devote to creating.
If I had started sooner, I think I would have had more time to develop my niche and refine my craft. I would have been able to experiment with different styles, make mistakes, and learn from them earlier on. Starting sooner might have also meant being ahead of certain trends or finding a niche before it became saturated. The energy and enthusiasm I had in my earlier years could have fueled more daring projects, and I might have reached certain milestones more quickly. I officially took content creation seriously about two years ago, I most recently created a YouTube channel back in January of 2024 and it’s been a hit ever since!
Starting sooner would likely have changed my career entirely. I might have been in a different place in my life honestly, with different connections and opportunities. I could have built a brand or a following earlier, and maybe even have avoided some of the detours I took in my traditional career. On the flip side, starting earlier might have meant facing challenges or setbacks that I wasn’t prepared for at a younger age honestly.
In hindsight, while I sometimes wish I had started sooner, I’m also grateful for the experiences I had before diving into my creative career. Those experiences have shaped who I am today and given me a unique perspective that I bring into my work.
Would I go back and start sooner? Maybe. But I’m also a firm believer that things happen for a reason and that timing, whether it seems right or not at the moment, plays a crucial role in the journey. So, while I might tweak the timing if I could, I’m content with where I am now and the path that brought me here.
Lorenzo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a content creator who started my journey on YouTube and Instagram, where I share my experiences, thoughts, and adventures with my audience. My content is rooted in authenticity, focusing on the real, unfiltered aspects of life. From travel vlogs that show not just the highlights but also the challenges, to candid reflections on why I chose to explore local spots instead of venturing out to popular destinations, my goal has always been to keep it 100% real and honest.
I didn’t start in the creative industry right away. Initially, I was on a more traditional career path, working in roles that didn’t fully ignite my passion. There was always a creative side of me itching to get out, but it took some time before I decided to take that leap. When I finally did, I found that sharing my journey, both the highs and the lows, resonated with people, and that’s when I knew I had found my place.
On YouTube and Instagram, I create vlogs/reels and other content that explore various aspects of life, travel, and personal growth. My YouTube channel features a mix of travel vlogs, weekend diaries, and sometimes more personal content where I talk about the challenges and joys of life. I’m also active on Instagram, where I share snippets of my day-to-day life, travel highlights, and behind-the-scenes content.
Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with brands that align with my values and the interests of my audience. Whether it’s a travel accessory that makes life easier on the road, or a local business that offers unique experiences, I partner with brands to create content that feels genuine and adds value to my followers. I’m selective about the partnerships I take on, ensuring they align with my brand and will be of real interest to my audience.
What sets me apart from others is my commitment to transparency and authenticity. I don’t just share the picture-perfect moments; I dive into the reality of situations, whether it’s a trip that didn’t go as planned or a decision to stay local instead of jetting off to a new country. I believe in showing the full spectrum of experiences, not just the highlights.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve built around my content. My followers know that they can come to my channel or Instagram for honest, relatable content. They trust me to give them the real story, and that trust is something I value immensely. I’m also proud of the partnerships I’ve formed with brands that I genuinely believe in and that my audience loves.
The main thing I want potential clients, followers, or fans to know is that my content is all about realness. I’m here to share my journey, the good and the bad, and to connect with others who appreciate that kind of honesty. Whether you’re here for travel tips, life inspiration, or just to see someone navigating life’s ups and downs, you’ll find something that resonates with you.
In the end, my work is about connection—connecting with experiences, with places, and most importantly, with people. If you’re looking for content that’s not just polished but also real, you’ve come to the right place.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to be myself, fully and unapologetically. It’s about letting people into my world and sharing my experiences, thoughts, and feelings in a way that’s both authentic and transparent. There’s something incredibly freeing about being comfortable in my own skin and allowing others to see the real me, flaws and all.
This connection, this honesty, is what makes the creative journey so fulfilling for me. It’s not just about creating content; it’s about building relationships and fostering a community where others feel seen and understood. That’s what makes it all worth it.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media was a journey that started over 10 years ago on Instagram. Back then, I was all about fashion. I would post content highlighting people who had a super dope sense of style. I admired the creativity and uniqueness of others, and I wanted to share that with my followers. Over time, I began to work myself into the mix, posting my own daily outfits and letting my style speak for itself.
This approach helped me build a community that valued authenticity and creativity. By highlighting others, I was able to create a space where people felt seen and appreciated, which in turn helped me gain visibility and trust within the fashion community. As I continued to post consistently and engage with my followers, my audience grew.
