Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lorenzo Pozzan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lorenzo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Risk goes hand in hand with the person and artist I am and have always wanted to be, taking a leap with a vision in mind and catching the blessings on the magical trajectory that ensues. It was a risk to move across the planet, from Italy to NYC and LA, so far away from my family, friends and prior references, but it seemed like the best way to broaden the possibility of what my life could be. It ended up shaping and transforming my dreams into a life, allowing me to cross paths with many incredible people, fine-tuning my craft, satisfying many curiosities and overall making me understand the type of life I want to live and the type of person I want to be.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Though my main professional focus is acting, my greatest love is storytelling, and my career and life have always been extremely dynamic and multidisciplinary, following that North Star.
I grew up speaking three languages, in a household that was a unique blend of multiple cultures and have always loved different, apparently almost incompatible activities. I alternated spear-fishing with soccer and skiing with horseback riding, adding travel as soon as I became of age, and with it the things I picked up on the road, tessera’s to the mosaic of my life, including another language. So the variability and constant new challenges that acting presents are a perfect culmination and convergence of my many passions: human beings, psychology, cinema, traveling, physical activity and art, amongst others.
Giving visibility to the sometimes hidden psychology of the characters I play, along with the automatic empathy that generates is one of the highlights and pride of my work.
From acting, in pursuit of storytelling, I have expanded my competencies to hosting, writing, coaching, and in general the meeting point between communication and expression.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society is made by and of people and the values, rules and conditions we all commonly agree on. It is my opinion that we should agree on the fundamental notion that creativity, art and expression are instrumental parts of human health and well being.
Just like we agree on the fundamental principles upon which laws and rules are made, agreeing that artists serve an important role in society would in turn facilitate the creation of infrastructures and rules that grant job security and provide basic needs to a number of professional categories that still experience unfair precariousness.
The recent global wave of strikes and subsequent overwhelming solidarity serves as testimony and warning, and I really think acknowledging the broader nature of the concern would nurture the already thriving global creative ecosystem.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Thank you for this question, which I think ties in beautifully with the previous one. My mission has always been to tell stories, because I believe in their incredible, expansive power, the way I do it is through the creation of organic, truthful and specific behavior, with that being said, the universality of this desire has granted me the opportunity to do many things. To give broader visibility to untold and underrepresented stories, hidden details of the human condition, psychology and processes is a beautiful way to exalt the uniqueness and beauty of individuality, thus healing and promoting inclusiveness and empathy.
