We were lucky to catch up with LORENZO ORTEGA recently and have shared our conversation below.
LORENZO, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am very happy as a content creator on YouTube because it has unleashed a sense of freedom I have always appreciated. What makes me happy about being a creator is that I can express my views and share them with the world. Anyone that has their views align with mines or just wants to hear a different perspective on many ranges of topics can listen or watch my videos on YouTube.
I have had many jobs in the past and I appreciate learning from different leaders and different work ethics that has shaped me into a confident content creator now. I have enjoyed working for others, but it is rewarding to work for yourself and distribute content that may help others and helping others is my main goal.
To paint a picture for readers, I have worked at a job where waking up at 3am was a responsibility. I remember sitting in my car as it warmed up and I would take these moments to reflect on how things went the day before and how I would make today’s day better than yesterday. Whether it would be to ask more questions at work to improve my performance, or to help others that needed improvement in their positions. Working there was like being around family or around best friends. These moments in my life are what I continue to think about as I pursue greater things that can help my local community and the world at the same time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A little about myself. I was born and raised in California. I have lived in Washington for 4 years and stationed in Florida for 6 years. I served as a Security Forces Leader in the Air Force and have deployed to Iraq and Saudi Arabia. I recently relocated to Kansas which has been a blessing to be somewhere I love for its location, its affordability, the place for all seasons, the comfort of no serious traffic, a place to settle down, get married and have a family.
I have been wanting to create content on YouTube for many years and have always ignored my passion. I have finally put myself in a position where I am able to create content full time. Throughout the years I have watched all sorts of videos on YouTube, from people reacting to different things, to people teaching how to do something that would be beneficial, or videos that inform you of ideas that may trigger new ideas that can help me or my family. My Channel provides a specific audience that wants or likes to be informed in everyday news or life. I offer my opinion on certain topics and provide the truth in what I can find from sources to have a platform that can be trusted and accepted.
What sets me apart from other content creators, is that I don’t focus on one category but several. The Game Plan is about venturing into different spheres in life and sharing it with others that may have an interest in what I am publishing out there. There are some content creators that really inspired me to start my own channel as well and have made it known in my videos how much I appreciate their inspiration.
I believe solving problems in what I do is dissecting what information is being distributed to the masses in what is true and what is not. My solution to these problems is conducting research and reading and listening to a lot of different sources to put the puzzle pieces together so my audience sees the whole picture regarding topics.
What I am most proud of is that I am focusing on making my content better everyday and that alone is rewarding for me. What I want my fan base to know is that I do better every day by offering what I believe to be important topics, speaking on it efficiently, and editing my videos in a way that keeps them entertained and captivated.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I must say that the books I have read in my life that have made an impact on my leadership skills have been books that were self-improvement or self-discipline reads. The books that come to mind are ones from Jordan Peterson, which have really changed my way of thinking in the most positive ways. I have watched many videos as well that taught me about leadership patience, participation, and assertiveness. After the military, I went back to college and enrolled in philosophy and business classes that put more ideas in my mind that would end up illustrating the reasons I make decisions in my professional life.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A very life-changing pivot I had in my life was joining the armed forces at 19 years old. I ran out of options and took an interest in serving my country. What took me years to realize, is that decision changed the man that I am now. I made a choice to sacrifice my time and life and dedicating it to helping other men and women who served. Having the opportunity to serve with others from around the world and learning their walks of life and how I would compare it with mines to really appreciate the good and bad of what kind of sacrifices we made by serving. This major pivot in life has helped me understand adapting to change under any circumstance. The harsh realities of what can or cannot happen is why I keep a positive future mindset.
